Merells are a bit more shoe than I am used to but I'm quite sure that I made the right decision. They are with me on safari in Southern Africa and performing admirably.

I usually order full size up from my normal shoe size to accommodate a full orthotic and I found it was adequate and left enough room for thicker socks if needed. But I did end up returning the shoe because of how it seem to gap a bit around my shins and I was afraid it would allow dirt and pebbles to get in. I did not expect it to be so boxy and heavy.

I liked the looks of the Moab 2 Vent but they were a tad too short in the length and slightly wider in the toe box then my go to Salomons Speedcross 4. I have narrow feet and finding a good show to hug my foot can be a challenge.

UPDATE to an earlier review: 10W shoes were too narrow and exchanged for 10.5W. They felt a little long initially but are actually fine -- no problem there. They worked okay for short walks, but after my first real hike... too narrow. This is the widest hiking shoe Merrell makes, and it's the widest brand I've tried so far. Not sure what else to try... :-(

I have the Merrell Moabs 1......and they fit perfect. The Moab 2 seems to have changed and feel wider and longer than the originals.

These were comfortable out of the box. The toe area is wide, so makes the shoe feel a little bigger than normal and once they softened up, I quickly wished I had ordered a 1/2 size down. That said, they are sturdy, comfortable and have great arch support - important for my daily hikes.

First I have to admit that I do have a problem with my feet, so as not to blame Merrell. These hikers are great for anyone whose feet tend to "turn" or twist while walking. I noticed that my feet tend to turn in and they weren't able to do that with these hikers. Also, they almost forced my foot into it's correct position, thereby improving my overall balance and posture. The only thing I didn't like was that they don't feel like they have any cushion inside at all. The sole is very hard so I have put some padded insoles in them, but they still feel hard. That could be due to my problem with my feet so please don't hold that against the shoe. Give them a try, you'll be happy you did!

Wide toe box which was good for me without having to resort to "wide" shoes which never fit properly. These were comfortable except the right boot had a hard protrusion that hit the arch of my foot in a way that caused immediate pain. These are very boxy looking which is fine with me, but may be an issue for others.

Comfortable right out of the box. Accommodates my orthotics perfectly. Medium width has roomy toe box - but not too wide that my feet move all over. Nice grip on soles. Great walking shoe.

I really wanted to like this shoe. It has a roomy toe box (which tends to be my challenge in finding hiking shoes) and great support. Unfortunately, my heel slips slightly with every step. I would imagine after a few miles, I would end up with blisters on my heel. So, back they go.

This shoe fit my wide foot with plenty of toe room. My only complaint is that it doesn’t have a lot of cushioning, so I put in some different inserts to make them less hard feeling under my feet. Seems like they should put more padding in a hiking shoe.

This is a nice shoe, but it felt like it was designed for a wider foot. The length was right but it was super loose for me. Sadly, it's going back but I'll still look for another Merrell - really like the quality of the brand.

I thank Merrill for adding a wide option to these shoes. I don't think they are as wide as a wide should be, but it was nice to buy a shoe a full size smaller that would still accommodate my wide foot and orthotics. I've been measured repeatedly and should be wearing a size 6, but with my wide feet I ended up with a size 7 Wide. In the past without the wide option I was wearing a size 8 in these Merrills.I wish Merrill would add more cushion otherwise I am very happy with these shoes.

I have two pairs of Merrell shoes that are size 9M. So I ordered a size 9M. It was too short and slightly tight in the toe box at the end. Fine. I upsized to a 9.5M, and they were long enough and wide enough around the toes, but the arch support started just behind the arch in the heel area, which just felt bizarre. These are cute shoes, they seemed to be well constructed and I liked the size. The padding was good all over. The sizing didn't align with the older Merrells I own (5-8 years old). At this point I'm reluctant to try again until I've had a chance to try on a bunch of Merrell shoes to see if the sizing in general has changed, or just this style was different.

Very comfortable but vents water better than air. Went into my garden in the rain and feet got soaked in minutes, but they (feet) sweat horribly in them and are as hot as in waterproof.

I ordered 2 of this same shoe in the same size & width, just different colors. One fit great, the other was boxy, longer and just not the same. Not up to Merrells usual standards.

EVen if the shoe would have fit in size, the tongue was not wide enough to fit underneath the side. There was a gap there, and I think I would have collected little stones etc. maybe it is because I have a high instep? Still, I do not understand how a design like that got to production. Merrill is not what it used to be!

I like merrell shoes but this one is heavier and clunkier than the merrell moab 2 waterproof. Unfortunately, the merrell moab 2 waterproof was a smaller size 10 than this one. Crazy. I think I will go into REI and try them on inside a store to get one that fits me properly. Maybe this one was mismarked. I don't know. They are on different lasts. I really like the merrell moab 2 waterproof.

If you've worn the Moab 2 Vent in the past be sure and try it on before you hit the trails. This is my third pair and they turned out to be a bit longer. Enough that I developed calluses on the sides of both big toes from the friction when descending on steep trails.

Not enough arch support for me. Otherwise fit well. But they made an annoying skreetchy sound on my hardwood floors and I can’t live with that.

It is too large, and way too heavy. Ugly color, not true color on website.

When I first put the shoes on they felt comfortable, but then I stood up and walked and the arch is too far back for me - soo uncomfortable! Back they go.

Merrill’s just don’t have any arch support to support your walking, returned immediately and they need to make women sizes bigger than 11

I have purchased several Merrells over the years, including the Moab 2, and I have always been a size 7. When I received the 7 a few weeks ago it was too short. I thought it was odd, but I sent it back and exchanged it for a 7.5. The 7.5 was too large all over, so I sent it back. Obviously, there are quality control issues here. I like the look, the fabric of the upper and the sole but no one would try to wear a hiking shoe that didn't fit. It would be a recipe for disaster. I was really disappointed.
