These are good looking shoes, but definitely much bigger than marked. They are at least a half, if not a full size, too large.

Great shoes. Classic business shoe. Only complaint, as others have noted, is that the 6.5 3E is extremely long. As they are not going to be my everyday shoes I can deal with it. I might try a different color in 6 3E and see if they are shorter.

The Melton has been my go-to dress shoe for over a decade. This is my second pair in black, and I also have a pair in cordovan. I love the styling and quality of the shoe. For some reason, this shoe feels a bit wider than my last two pairs, but other than that, I love these shoes!

Length - Excellent shoe for the money. Have owned many pairs, although seems to be an issue with consistency in the length of the shoe.

I'll give these shoes 3-stars across the board, even though I returned them. These shoes did not fit me well, which is not a negative thing. I should have looked for "wide" or E as "medium" or D are often too snug for me. Perhaps because of that I thought the toe box was narrow. The other reason I returned them is color. They really are as dark as they look in the Zappos photos. Even in person, they appear black instead of burgundy/ cordovan.

I ordered the 6.5W because that is the size I'm wearing that fits. This shoe was the length of a size 8 shoe. It had to go back. Did they take an 8 for width and just slap the 6.5W sticker on it?

Wore this shoe for 4+ years -- very stiff, hard to break in -- looks good, but really stiff and hurts your (well, my) feet after a few hours. Just upgraded to John Varvatos Dress Oxford SKU: #7680725 Color: Black Calf Skin which is incredible. Same Oxford-y look, but it's like putting your feet in butter -- very soft leather. Spend the extra money and get the Varvatos or Hugo Boss instead.

I was disappointed with this shoe. It looks nice, and feels fine the first few times you wear it, but it started developing a major crease just outside the cap toe within two or three days of wear. This crease became deeper and deeper, to the point where it was cutting off circulation to my toes underneath. (One negative of a cap toe shoe, I've since been told, is that they develop only one crease, as opposed to several more [natural] breaks that develop in slip-ons or other varieties of shoe). I visited a Johnston & Murphy store, and they said it was a combination of my foot size/shape and the stiffness of the leather used in making the Melton (softer leather = good). I'm going to upgrade to the next tier of shoe, b/c the Melton is simply killing my feet.

These shoes never made it onto my feet. Dull finish, poor quality materials...... this is a $75 shoe with a $176 J&M brand price. It's a pity, J&M used to make a quality shoe.

This was my first experience with Zappos. These are $180.00 shoes and this what I got out of the box. They looked liked they had been worn at a wedding...thrown on a gravel road. I’ve heard great things about Zappos so I’m returning these and going to try one more time.

Arrived defective. The workmanship of the welt was very poor, even for mass-market standards. Returned immediately.

The shoes are a bit stiff but are breaking in easily. Did not get any blisters during my son's wedding which is a plus.

Very nice shoe. Feels like a good fitting dress shoe (don't confuse comfort with your favorite pair of sneakers). High quality leather takes and holds a shine. They are a quality leather shoe and should be treated as such (cedar inserts, regular shining, don't wear everyday). These shoes compliment almost any outfit I wear them with. I recommend heel and toe caps if you are going to go outside much at all.

Fit like a glove. At first felt like might be too tight but wearing them for 3 hours proved this was not the case. Very beautiful shoes.

I'll preface by saying I'm normally one of those people who only writes negative reviews given the lack of time, but I would recommend ordering a full size down along with your regular size then returning the size that doesn't fit. This shoe fit me a full size down for reference. The break in period can be up to 4 days and are quite uncomfortable until that point, but totally worth the wait. These shoes are very comfortable. I wear 9 hours + a day mixed between seated, standing, and walking. The brown is darker than what appears in the photos but not a deal breaker.

I normally wear 7.5-8 depending on width, got these in 7E, seems a perfect fit. Let’s be honest, a shoe like this will never have the comfort of a lightweight running shoe, but these feel pretty good with a thin sole insert, pure classic look, would recommend.

Perfect shoe, very comfortable, I actually purchased several different b rands, and kept the Johnson & Murphy, it was actually less expensive but much more comfortable and actually the leather looks "richer" and less orange

I'm in court at least a few times a week, and nothing is worse than having to not just remove everything in my pockets and jacket/etc, but going through the hassle of taking off my shoes as well. These are 100% leather, so it's one less thing to deal with, saving me the time and trouble. They're durable, very professional, good looking shoes, I don't think I'll be purchasing any other brand for a long, long time. THAT SAID, the first few times you wear them will be complete HELL. As the leather breaks and molds to your feet, they'll pinch HARD (at least in my experience, where it got so bad I was limping). Instead of wearing them fresh out of the box in public, I highly, HIGHLY suggest you just wear them around the house regularly until it feels comfortable. About a week of daily wear at home is enough. Don't let my warning put you off from these shoes, though. I'm going to buy another pair in brown. Once broken in, they're fantastic. They feel like slippers and look great.

What a beautiful pair of shoes! Initially ordered a black pair in 9.5 E, but they were too narrow (I usually wear a 9.5 W in New Balance, Stacy Adams, Keen, and Merrell). So I tried the 9.5 3E, and they were too long (my ankle was floating out of the shoe when I walked). Went down a half size to 9 3E, and they fit like I went to a cobbler to get them custom fit! Thanks so much to the Zappos customer service reps for helping me through this process. I can't wait to spit shine these for my cousin's wedding!

I love the traditional styling of the sole and toe on these dress shoes. No funky wide round or squared off toe, just a nice, smooth, narrow, rounded capped toe.

Very nice dress shoe, no obvious defects. The only surprise is how heavy they are.

Johnston and Murphy Melton Cap Toe - J&M cap toes were my first dress shoes ever about 8 years ago, and this is my second pair. I've resoled the originals so many times I lost count, and they still feel like slippers. Very comfortable. So far, the new pair is breaking in nicely. However, they run really small and narrow--I usually wear a size 10 Nike and have a narrow foot, but I wear a J&M 7 1/2 EEE! They fit like a glove. I have no idea why. Try on a pair before you buy.

Excellent Shoe! These shoes are just as impressive as shoes costing twice as much. I can wear them all day and they feel great. They look great with slim cut and classic cut suits. Love these shoes!
