Loving this hat! Exceeded my expectations in appearance and comfort. [IMPORTANT: Mushroom color is browner than shown in the picture. This worked for me but may not work for everyone. I saw a hint of that when I looked up the hat on another site to get multiple perspectives.] This is a great hat for desert life. This summer is going to be a scorcher and I know that I'll be ready: protected from glaring sun but with decent air circulation in the crown. On a side note, I look pretty darn good in this hat. :)

great hat, I want 2 of them, in x-large. the fit is too snug in men's Large.

Great hat. I have several other similar summer hats, (including a couple Tilley's, which are well made). This is the most comfortable & functional one I own. I really like the cotton feel, but it still feels durable, (I hand wash my every couple weeks). The mesh brim is important to us desert-dwellers, this one is great, strong enough to keep the crown fairly up-right, (even when not wearing). Plus, you can gently roll it & stuff in side pockets of your pack, (it still retains it's shape). If I want max ventilation, I wear it backwards, as there's only a 4" solid piece in the front of the mesh crown. The chin strap is not spring loaded, (looks like it could slip of), if you'll be in strong winds, maybe replace it with a proper quick-release. This hat is super light, the brim is as big many, (not quite the 4" or so on a couple OR hats), and stay put in winds up to about 15mph, I'd guess, Even then, it flops back down in place, (small price to pay for a packable, quality hat). Highly recommend, I got the Sand Plaid, looks kinda cool, (& easy to locate being a lighter color), hasn't showed dirt too bad either. Happy trails, S2

Fit is true to size. Nothing cool about the looks, but it vents well. Works great for being outdoors and cramming it in your pack.

I ordered this for my husband. He works outside all day mowing and weed eating. He didn't want a hat with a big brim this one is perfect. Gives him cover on his face and neck but doesn't get in his way. He likes the size adjustment and the chin strap to keep it on his head on windy days. Also likes the ventilation for extra hot days.

Cool hat comfortable worth the price and well made ,keeps head cool and sun off works in the Texas extreme sunny skies.

Just spent a week in Sedona, AZ where it was 105'--this sun hat was perfect, comfortable, light, great protection, with awesome ventilation! I would highly recommend this hat for outdoor hiking/walking or working in the yard/field!

I just spent a week in Santa Barbara and used this hat every day. It protects your face, ears, and neck from the sun and the ventilation mesh on the sides allows for breathability so your head doesn't get all sweaty. I bought the plaid design and it blended in well with my outfits. The hat stays on your head even with a slight breeze so that I only had to use the strap when I was in extremely windy areas. I am a female with an average sized head and the purchased a medium size which fits well.

Love this hat! Brim is slightly smaller than others and is crushable. Mostly cotton, I sprayed it with water repellant. Perfect fitment and really keeps your head cool in the sun. A winner, winner!

Light comfortable and breathable. I have tried myriad hats including a custom-made straw hat. My head always itched and my hair got soaked from sweat in those. This is just so comfortable. And easy to pack!

Fits well it worked out great working down in the South. I put it in the dryer by mistake. I don't know how that will affect the hat in the future.

I bought this because of the chin strap, venting, and the review that said I would not look like a dork! I was actually told it was cute hat. I wore it in 90° heat with high humidity, and it was great. The venting helps a lot to keep my head cool. It can even be adjusted for the width of your head. It washes up well and dries to shape. I am planning to order another one for my trip to Costa Rica.

This hat fits well and is comfortable. It's well made, and I appreciate that it comes in size XL, because I have a large head and a lot of curly hair, and most hats are too skimpy. The reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 for style is that I wish it were a little more stylish or at least came in a more feminine color, like a soft pink or faded rose or washed-out blue or something like that. Nothing too screaming loud. Just something other than cairn and olive.

Its a great fit hat, cool that it can adjust smaller if needed, going to e great for festivals and being in the sun all day, and it will last for a while atleast thats what it feels like/your paying for.

I am a HS Football Coach and golfer. I have to be aware of skin cancer. My DR advised me to wear this type of hat. I am not the hat type of guy, but I love this hat and so do my players. I have done some research and I think this is easily the best for the money.

Love my new hat! I wear it to play golf 5 times a week. Bought it because it was washable and the hat size is adjustable. Did think the color was tan but turned out to be a shade of green. Not bad.

Exactly what I wanted. Hat is cool and kept the sun off my face and neck. Machine washable - what a bonus! Not what I'd call stylish but definitely functional.

Great hat. Bought one for each of my three children. The mediums work for them, just needed tightened. Ended up ordering two more for my husband and myself. Then my dad liked them, so we got him one too. Dad and my husband wear it in a large, myself, a medium. What drew me to them are the mesh vents that really keep my boys' heads nice and cool. They are also machine washable. That sealed the deal. An excellent quality hat for a fair price.

I've had this hat since 2008, when I took a job in the desert Southwest. It is very comfortable and breathable, and blocks the sun very well. I love dunking it in water in the hot afternoon. I would like to point out that the tag line for this product describes it as "Cotton sun protection for hot, dry climates." Key word is "dry" - the material may be a bit thick for the Midwestern or Southeastern USA heat. It is, however, perfect for the desert Southwest.

Haven't wear it yet but seems to be a great hat to protect from the sun and that can easily be carried in a travel bag for any trio. It arrived quite wrinkled but was told that I can iron which I should do before my boy wears it!

A fairly substantial sun hat that doesn't feel too flimsy. That said I found the brim a bit floppy. I returned it because I needed something different, but I could see it holding up well over long-term use.

I have been using this hat for 2 summers now. In Texas and New Mexico. I really like the fit with draw string. Works really well in the hot sun because my head stays cool and breaths. This hat will not dry fast. I found out when I got rained on when I was backpacking. The brim is a little flimsy in the wind, as mentioned in OR reviews. I really like the hat overall just needs some fine tuning!

In the photo Cairn looks to be in the beige family, but in reality is more of a light mossy green. It also appears to be a rounded top, but the top ridge is strongly defined making it look more like a fisherman's hat. The chin strap is great. It's adjustable and comfortable enough to allow one to tip the hat back when desired rather than taking it off. The mesh panels look as though they would provide enough ventilation to keep one cool. It came packed flat and although not marked as packable, I would say it would probably pack fine. It would be perfect for any outdoor activity that simply needs a quality sun hat. Unfortunately, I am looking for more of a fashion/feminine looking hat, so this is going back.
