Just got these last week and WOW, they are as close to perfect as Hoka has made. Super roomy toe box, heel fit perfect, and cushioning for days.
I'd also recommend:
Hoka.

Over the years I have bought several versions of Hokas, returned every one of them. Reason? Always a very tight toe box. Too tight for my liking. Until now. This is the first Hoka I have bought that I am keeping and like a lot. Finally a toe box that my toes don’t feels squished. I don’t have very wide feet, so it is not like I have difficulty finding shoes. I wear Nikes, Skechers, etc, and have no issues. But I do llke these. They get even more comfortable the more i wear them. I also like that they don’t have a lot of arch support like other Hokas. I have mild flat feet and like a flat shoe. I am especially partial to Altras for long runs, but these have become my long run shoes as of late. Can also wear these to work or just out and about with my sweats pants and don’t look goofy like Altras do. Also, these are much lighter than other Hokas I have tried which was also a nice surprise. New favorite long run shoe.
I'd also recommend:
Altra, Nike, Skechers GoRun

High cushion shoe if that’s what you want. Very comfortable. My first pair of hoka. Would recommend for a beginner runner or any runner that needs a lot of cushion

Used my new Clayton 2's for the Dubai Marathon on 26 Jan which performed as advertised. They were responsive and the larger toe box eliminated nagging toe pain. I look forward to running in them for the Rhodes Marathon in April!

Love these shoes. On my second pair and have had no problems with either. Was able to take them from the box to a 6 mile run with no issues. Good amount of support but yet so cushion-y! These are the shoes that made me a believer in Hoka.

My ortho-surgeon advised me to use Hoka's to alleviate the knee pain I was having after switching to Altra. I loved the Bondi's but they were a little clunky. The Clayton is the perfect amount of cushion and responsiveness. I hope they always keep them around, and don't modify them.

I've been looking for a shoe after Nike switched the midsole and design of the Zoom Elite 6. Have. Tried multiple brands and styles, but had yet to find a responsive and cushioned ride. I wear Footbalance insoles which are really effective, but rob a bit of the shoes cushion. Shoes either had too much cushioning and it was like running in sand to not enough cushioning and the legs always felt fatigued. The Clayton 2's were perfect and I would highly recommend them to anyone who wears insoles and puts in higher mileage. Even when my Garmin says to rest or train easy, my legs still feel pretty fresh...never experienced this with a running shoe. This holds up whether running on concrete or blacktop. Got mine in September and have already purchased a 2nd pair for rotation!

I've been running for 43 years so need the extra cushioning of Hoka's but love the lightness of the Clayton line. Ran New York in Clayton's and plan to run Boston in Clayton 2's. The uppers are a bit more comfortable than the original but the soles are just a good. Hard to find a lightweight cushioned shoe any better.

Great everyday trainer, absolutely love the two-density midsole which makes for a more efficient transition, more so now that I am now focusing on my technique. A lot of room upfront, but I did go half a size up. Now, this shoe can be a blister machine becaus of insole curving up the arch. But a very easy fix was to grab another of my Hoka insoles and just cut the extra material. That took care of the problem. Way better shoe than the clifton 3, very light that shaved 30 seconds per mile without doing anything different. Love the blue and orange color scheme (medieval blue and persimmon orange) and overlays, so while not a lifestyle shoe in its original aspiration, I do wear it with jeans in a long stroll around town. The orange on the outersoles mimics clay stains you'd get from paying on a clay tennis court, kind of cool.

I really liked the original Clayton, but the wider forefoot makes this the best running shoe I have ever had (although my Asics Gel Lytes in 1989 were hard to beat too!) This is my 2nd pair of Clayton 2.

Great feel. Responsive and soft. Only issue is insole is super thin, I replaced them with my Clifton 3 insoles.

No black toenails. Light and comfy. On the expensive side but for as many miles as I put on them with no issues, well worth it.

I am still smarting from the demise of the Cliftons and what they have done with them. My answer? The Clayton! I didnt like them at first but then discovered if i put the inserts from the clifton 3's in the claytons replacing the ones they came with they are perfect! Much lighter, more responsive and faster than the Cliftons and super stable feel unlike tracers or track shoes & still has the nice rocker feel. Heel a bit loose and the side of the collar digs into my ankle a little but they are new. Otherwise new mesh upper feels really nice and they REALLY WANT TO GO FAST! not a radical difference from the clayton 1's (like they did with the cliftons) which is also nice. thanks Hoka for not ruining them = 5 stars! Now where can i get more Clifton 3 sock liners (inserts)?

Underestimated this shoe. I work in a running store and never a believer in the shoes until I tried this one. A smash hit on the roads...and have worn them ever since. Have not gone back to my Brooks running shoes since I got the Clayton 2. Nice job Hoka, you've won me over! Serious competitive runner for over 45 years now.

By far the best shoe out there! I am 6' tall and 205 lbs. and a moderate runner. The cushion is excellent and allows me to increased the length of my runs. Shoe is responsive and I feel myself gaining strength and speed. The new version fits very similar to the original. Love them!!!

I just started training for triathlon and I went in to my local jackrabbit store looking for the most cushioned shoe I could find. I have had ankle issues / plantar fasciitis since I stopped running track and xc. The guy there was super helpful letting me know that these would offer a huge amount of cushion and shock absorption but since I had a neutral strike I didn't really need all the shoe that the Bondi gives. I have loved every second in the shoes, I was training in Nike frees before with a super feet insole but after a couple miles my calves would be shot. These don't even make me feel like I ever had any injuries it's awesome. Glad I went with hoka and took the store associate's advice.

This shoe is a nice balance between feel/responsiveness and cushion for me (I weight around 165 lbs.). I like the Clifton for long, easy runs or recovery runs; otherwise, I wear the Claytons and plan to wear them for a marathon I'm training for.

The new shoe has slightly more room than the origial claytons. I love the new feel. Other than the extra room its the same show for me. Same great cushioning and light on your feed. I hope the tread last longer than the original. Rubber feels about the same so maybe not.

I use them for Ironman & Marathon training, from tempo to long to brick runs they handle them all well and help my legs feel fresher. After 5 years of Kinvaras I didn't think I would find a replacement running shoe but I did with the Hoka Clayton 2. Love them.

I previously ran in the Challenger ATR, which didn't feel like a particularly stable ride. In buying the Clayton 2, I went down a half size (which could have been my issue with the Challenger), and I'm loving the ride. The Clayton feels light, stable, and responsive, due in part to the slightly firmer cushion (dual density midsole). During my first run, I was concerned the shoe might feel too firm/responsive, but I'm absolutely loving it now. I'm currently training for a half marathon in Nov, and this is the perfect shoe for my training.

I have tried on over 40 pair of running shoes in the last three years. I have a wide midfoot and I have a heckuva time getting shoes to fit me. I could write paragraphs about all the things I've gone through trying to find a shoe that fits me for the purposes of running . The short version is this year was wide enough for me in the midfoot, while still being supportive in the forefoot and heel. Hoka, please do not ever change the width of the shoe.

I've only run in Cliftons in the past. The Clayton 2 has been a superb upgrade for me, as I've added distance and speed to my runs. No complaints, period.
