I know these are slim jeans and I know everyone says one must be, well, slim in order to wear them. Right? And to some degree this makes sense: Slim guy, slim cut jeans. Larger guy, larger cut jeans. Well my husband is in his late 60s and things have sort of shifted around over the years. Specifically, everything from his butt and thighs has been redistributed to his abdomen. He is usually very hard to fit because most pants that fit around the waist are huge, baggy and sloppy looking everywhere else. Enter the 513; absolutely the best fitting pants that I have ever seen him wear. They fit perfectly. Everywhere. So what is the deal? Why do these jeans fit so well and look so good? I really had to think about it and it took me many tries before I caught on. Since my husband refused to go to the store to buy some jeans, I was left to my own devices and I learned a lot about men's jeans (and Levi's in particular) in the process. I am oversimplifying things here but there are generally two things that describe the way a pair of jeans will fit a man, aside from the waist size and the inseam. First, there's the cut. This is how the pant fits in the rear and thighs. Levi's has seven general cuts, going from tightest in the rear and thigh to loosest in the rear and thigh: Skinny, Slim, Regular, Original, Relaxed, Loose, and Comfort. Second, there is the look and style of the leg. Levi's has four leg cuts: Skinny, Taper, Straight and Boot. So, add this all up and there are four variables: 1. Waist size; 2. Inseam (or length); 3. Cut; and 4. Leg style. With Levi's you can generally mix and match. So they have the 504 Regular Straight, the 508 Regular Taper, the 559 Relaxed Straight, the 513 Slim Straight, etc. Generally the cut is listed first followed by the leg. All of the Levi's styles come in virtually any waist size and in virtually any length so as long as you get the right waist size, it will fit around the middle regardless of the cut (or the leg). So for an average proportioned guy, the 513 Slim Straight will run slim or close fitting in the thigh and butt (in his proper waist size) but for my husband, they fit like normal pants would since he is so much smaller than average in the seat and thighs. Make sense? All of this assumes you get your correct, actual waist size so guys, do not skimp there even though it is tempting. Example: If I were trying to fit a short guy (say 30"L) with a skinny waist (say a 32"W), but with large thighs and a big butt, I would probably start with something like the 550 Relaxed Taper or the 559 Relaxed Straight because the Relaxed cut will look normal on him assuming he is wearing his correct waist size. I hope this helps those of you who are not of average proportion and are struggling to find a pair of normal fitting jeans. My husband never looked better and for the first time in forever he actually likes his jeans!

The bastion color comes in very stretch material so I would go 1 size down on the waist. I usually wear a 34x30 in other Levi's and other brands but I think a 33x30 or maybe even a 32x30 would have done justice since the material has some stretch in it. Overall, the quality and style of the jean is terrific. I purchased the 511s and 514s before, but the 511s are too skinny for my taste and the 514s feel a little awkward...almost bell bottomish with the relaxed fitting below the knees. The 513s are a great in between and are perfect if you're looking for slim jeans especially if you have an athletic build. These jeans are great. I would read up on the color to make sure of the build of the jeans. If they have spandex, then please size down.

These jeans are perfect! My husband has only worn Lucky jeans over the past few years. I was thinking about a designer label, until I saw the Levis 513. The waist and inseam are perfect, lean enough, without being skinny jeans. He looks amazing. They are a bit leaner than he is used to, but he's breaking them in.

Great style and fit; not too tight, yet fit close to the body. The little bit of stretch makes them uber comfortable.

I didn’t know that the Bastion color choice was stretch. I assumed they’d be just like rigid or rinsed blue denim. It’s not that big of a deal, I guess.

There comes a time when you tire of trying on jeans in a JC Penny. When you find one perfect pair of pants that fits so well, and is so sturdy that you wonder why you ever bothered to own any other pants at all. You make a life long commitment to these pants, and just order a whole bunch of them in different colors. These are those pants. Found them a couple years ago, and have never looked back.

I'm picky about how I like my clothes to fit. I've got an athletic build (i.e. round butt and big thighs), so finding pants that fit and have updated style can be challenging. I've bought a few pairs that fit at the top and looked like bell bottoms, and a few that looked great standing up but wouldn't allow me to sit down (cough... Guess ... cough). I honestly hadn't even thought of trying Levi's, but a couple of the reviews convinced me to take a chance. The slightly stretchy aspect help them fit a little closer at the top without compromising movement and keep the bottom slim enough to be in style. After I wore these for a day, I ordered a second pair in a different color.

May be best to try these on at the store. Very hard to find the right size as they are all very different.

I love these jeans. This is the first time I have bought pants online due to the fact that my thighs are fat. I read everyone's recommendations and chose one size lower than what I am used to and it worked. What I loved the most about it is how comfortable it is. It is huge recommendable.

Really enjoying these jeans. I would reiterate the other reviews that you get a size down, though. The stretch will accommodate. I had to return the first pair I got and go down a size.

Great dark blue denim, this version has a little stretch for comfort. Slim fitting but not skinny so it works for a dude my age. You can even go down a size due to the fabric. Overall a great looking jean, my new favorite Levi fit.

I bought my husband 4 different washes of the 513’s. They all fit different. Ended up sending them all back despite this fit being his favorite, they’re just not the same or consistent like his current pairs.

I like these a lot. Good "traditional" blue denim color and slim fit, but plenty of elastic so they move well. I normally wear a 36/32 but I get these in 34/32 (one size smaller in the waist) because they have so much elastic. If I get these in my normal size, then they wind up very loose after wearing them for a while.

Levi sizes are very inconsistent. Always order a 32 inseam and get pants either too short or too long.

My favorite jeans got a stain, so I ordered two more: identical color, size, and style. They came wildly different - different from the original pair I was replacing (2 years old) and also, different from one another! One pair was at least an inch longer than the other, one had much wider thigh, etc etc .... not sure I can recommend these. They’re wildly inconsistent and impossible to predict if you’re getting the size you’re asking for.

High quality jeans

The fit is perfect. Fits through the rear and even though they are a slim, the leg room is perfect. Husband loves them!

Own multiple pairs of 513's. I think they're the perfect cut and value, however they seem to vary depending on color, as my couple pairs in black are noticeably thicker and feel stiff. For this reason, I do not wear if I plan on being more active or in warmer weather. Will continue to buy.

Worn Levi jeans my whole life (45 yrs old). I like to change styles every couple years to stay with current trends. These are slim cut Jeans that work great for an, ahem... shall we say, not so slim guy. I love the look and feel of these jeans and own a few colors. I’m 5’10”, and weigh in between 210 and 220 lbs (depending on winter holidays). I also prefer to wear my jeans and dress pants low on my waist. Tailored dress pants: I wear a 40” waist. These jeans are perfect at 38” waist, and 30” length (and I prefer a longer inseam / half to full break in dress pants with shoes). Worn with casual boots the 513 should give a nice full break covering your socks, but not appearing sloppy. Love these jeans!

Perfect pair of jeans.

I've recently shaped back up, dropped some weight, and discovered Levi's 511s and 513s. Both of these slim cuts are more flattering than the slim fits of some other brands and are more comfortable, cut trimmer and casting a slender profile without cutting, pinching, or binding. The 513 straight legs fit over Western boots better than the 511s without looking stretched over the boot tops. I live in the Mountain West where I am engaged in civic and business affairs and need a bit of a dressier appearance, so I settled on the 513 colors (including this Monogray color) for my dressy jeans. They are rugged enough and easily maintained so I can wear them from a meeting out to check a trail, road, irrigation ditch, or erosion problem on the way home. My only quibble: I wish Levi's made the 513s in a 30x34 because the 32-inch is just barely long enough for me to wear with Western boots, and I'm no towering giant. The Monogray works well with a variety of colors in tops - white and blue Oxford shirts of course, plaid shirts, Navy sweaters, and Navy blazers or blue denim jackets to dress down a touch.
