These are made from very cheap leather with poor sewing. The leather crumples in bad weather and the sewing comes undone where it attaches the leather to the bag. The long satchel drawstring whips if someone is within two or three feet of you. It gets much better on the inside. It has an excellent laptop storage compartment. However, the cheap leather this bag uses really kills the crisp look.

I really wanted to love this backpack, but unfortunately it was not meant to be. I just moved to Boston and with a 1 year old and 3 year old in tow began navigating public transportation by myself. I desperately needed a backpack so I could have both hands free. I read about this one on a blog and loved the idea of having a "stylish" backpack, but I wasn't impressed. Here are my reasons for returning. 1. It looks too large on me (I'm 5'4", 120lb) and is really bigger then I need for a day in the city even with two small children. 2. Dealing with the two steps required to access each pocket was just a hassle - unsnap magnets and undo pull cord to get into main pocket, or unsnap magnets and unzip to access smaller pocket. Then reverse to close the backpack up. 3. The main portion of the backpack is so large it's very easy to lose things inside the backpack. 4. No water bottle sleeve either inside or outside the pack. 5. I was slightly paranoid that the magnets would ruin my credit card and transit card. Not sure if this would actually happen, but the possibility crossed my mind. 6. I wanted a "stylish" backpack, but wearing a backpack always just looks like you're wearing a backpack. I learned that I'd rather have a more functional pack then a nicer looking one.

This backpack is the bees knees if you know what I mean. It's spacious, stylish, and has gotten me a lot of compliments. The laptop compartment fits my 15" Macbook and a folder PERFECTLY and securely. And I love the comfort of the straps. But there are a few things that aren't so hip. While the leather straps are stylish, they are also annoying. They magnetically snap on, but it's still more time-consuming than just a zipper. Also, there isn't a water bottle holder. This is a HUGE con (at least for me). Lastly, there are minimal storage pockets which cause me to just dump most of my stuff into the bottom of the bag, never to be found again.

I got the all black bag and it really seems to complement most of my outfits! It is a big bag, so you definitely can cram a bunch of stuff in here. I feel like the inside pockets (MP3 player spot and the one on the opposite side) are a bit useless, as I can't really fit anything in here besides maybe a few pens and pencils, but it's hard to even reach in there. Overall, it's a pretty good backpack and I'll probably buy other products from this company.

I recently purchased the black one and I absolutely love the styling. I do wish there were more pockets on the inside or outside. I use this bag mainly for college and it is very functional, it fits my 13'' MacBook Pro with more room to spare so that is a plus! I know I am going to be using this hopefully throughout my whole college experience.

My boyfriend was drooling over this backpack while we were out in Cali a few weeks ago, but didn't want to pay the price. As soon as we got home I ordered it, and surprised him with the backpack before he left for school. The bag has plenty of room for all his homework and books, as well as contains an ultra-soft compartment for his laptop. Perfect fit, perfect gift... heck, I'm even considering ordering one for myself! LOVE it.

The best backpack ! Super comfortable, I use about 5 huge books in it everyday . It Keeps me organized . Love the style <3 it feels like I can use this backpack for the next 10 years !!! So happy with this purchase

Great bag. It's not just faddishness that makes these things so popular. They hold a ton, they're easy to open and close, they don't have a bunch of nylon straps dangling from every corner, they're comfortable even when heavy, and their laptop sleeve is genuinely protective. I do wish they had a little more internal organization, but that's my only real gripe. I used one of these for about two years, and when I lost it, I tried out a bunch of alternatives from brands like Chrome, Arc'Teryx, Jansport, and Banjo Brothers, but in the end, I came back to the Little America.

Great stylish backpack. I got this for my husband and now all eyes on him and that bag when he is on the train. The bag is a perfect size and makes a great fashion statement!

I am really dying to get this and it looks great so I am going ahead with my decision. Wish me luck!

Nice backpack but very small. The measurements didn't seem right.

I had to buy a bag from my recent trip to Peru that I can bring on the plane and still use as comfortable bag to hike around Machu Picchu and I found it in this. The only negative comment I have is that the front pocket is too small and the draw string was a little cumbersome, but then again it also acts as extra "security" especially if you are walking around a touristy area. But other than that it’s really comfortable and had plenty of space to carry in the plane and still small enough to fit underneath the seat.

This is NOT the original little America from Herschel. I purchased this one to replace the same bag I’d purchased three years ago and they’ve changed it. The laptop sleeve is pathetic and flimsy. It’s held together at the top by a piece of cheap elastic that will wear out over time and is nowhere near as thick and padded as my original one, it feels like a cheap piece of cardboard while the original is very thick and luxurious. The canvas and liner are extremely cheap feeling. The drawstring that cinches the bag shut has been made thinner so it’s more likely to snap over time. Don’t waste your time. The little america used to be the perfect bag and now they’ve cheapened it with flimsy materials and craftsmanship. Get a bag from another brand since Herschel doesn’t even have the integrity to inform their customers that they’ve made huge changes to this bag without saying a word. I may as well have bought a jansport for this quality.

The rust bag was about as pictured, but the leather was a little browner, making it a closer match to the bag itself and therefore kind of clashy. I also want to echo the reviewer below - the leather DID look cheap, especially for a bag this expensive. It would have been better to use a high-quality pleather than this thin, cheap leather, especially for something so visible. It seemed like a comfortable bag (I only wore it around the house briefly) but I was overall very unimpressed. The front pocket was small and hard to access for a right-handed person. All in all, underimpressed.

Love this backpack. Very roomy and could hold a lot of stuff. Really well made and held up to my really heavy books.

I don't normally write reviews but I really love this backpack! I've had it for a couple weeks now and it fits everything I need. I was searching and searching for a bag I could put my laptop, snacks, and gym clothes in and this is perfect. I got it in grey and it looks really professional. I for sure recommend this product for anyone who takes public transportation and has a lot of stuff to carry everyday.

Got this and the retreat bag to try. This little America is longer than the retreat bag. Little larger. I liked the style of this one better. I haven’t used it yet but I like the style of it. Will be great to and from work and going on trips to the museum and playground w my 4 year old. Stylish. Hope it lasts awhile. Excellent Canadian company!

I love my backpack. My bf and I share the black with camo straps and we both get compliments on it. Its length is perfect for providing lots of room while not making the backpack bulky width wise. Very comfy straps as well as added padding on the back for support.

I recently purchased my 2nd Little America. It’s the perfect carry on/overnight bag for me. I can usually get 3 outfits, 1-2 pairs of shoes plus toiletries into it for a quick weekend trip. My husband uses his as a laptop/everyday carry bag. No complaints here!

Love the style of this book bag. Carry my gym clothing and work reports while still having room for my 4 year old snacks.
