I've always used clipless pedals, but now am getting more into free ride stuff so I switched to flats. I tried wearing Vans at first but my feet kept slipping off the pedals at inopportune times. The Five Ten Freeriders are amazing. I actually got a little freaked out by how grippy they were. I feel almost like I'm clipped in. Can't say how durable they are as I've only had mine two months, but they do well even when wet and muddy. I'm a women's size 7.5/8 so I ordered the men's size 6 and they fit perfectly. Not the most comfortable for casual wear (though they look cool!) because of the stiff sole, but excellent for biking.

This is an all around excellent shoe for bmx and and mountain biking as the stealth rubber soles grip to the pedals very well. They might feel a little stiff when new, but break in nicely and are extremely durable. They are similar to the 510 basic, if not identical with different color schemes.

Fantastic! The stealth rubber and tread pattern provide great traction on and off of my platform pedals. They are comfortable enough to wear for a full day of chasing the kids around.

I purchased two pairs of Five Ten shoes. Both have the same problem; the trim/border around the sole separated from the sole within a month, leaving a big gap that fills with crud and takes on water. Otherwise, I like the shoe. It fits well, and the sole is super-sticky on platform pedals. Unfortunately, on some (but not all) wet surfaces, the sole becomes so dang slippery, I feel like I'm walking on ice.

I was trying to get back into biking but my feet were always so sore. I really didn't like the idea of the clip pedals special pedals. But I really wanted something with a stiffer sole to take the strain off of my feet. I absolutely love these shoes. They are stiff enough to avoid hurting my feet but they stick to the pedals like glue so I don't feel like I'm losing any of my force, either on my mountain or road bikes. They've got enough support that I can wear them running errands and they are sturdy enough to take a beating but still look great. They are comfy and I love the way they look - I wouldn't ride my bike in anything else. Long live the Freerider!

One year later, and I'm still wearing (and loving) my 510s. When added to the Shimano DX platform pedal, I can honestly say that I don't miss my SPDs at all (except maybe on the steepest of hills). I feel I've become a better downhill rider because I know I can dab if I need to. They're a little bulky for the female form, but I like them better than the woman's specific 510s, which just look ridiculous on me.

I have owned these shoes for a little over a month now. They have been fantastic, overall. A great fit and true to size. The only downfall is they said the soles wouldn't leave black marks when walking, and they did only one time. Other than that slight incident, they are great shoes! Thank you, Zappos, for another fine product!

Excellent shoes for riding. If you DH or dirt jump or anything in the realm of freeride, you’ve seen 5-10 on the mountain. I ride the Impacts for DH and just picked these up for jumping and to use for XC riding. They are just as sticky as the Impacts, just less bulky. Broke them in riding at Ray’s MTB in Cleveland and they worked great pedaling the XC loop, pump track, box jumps, etc. Never slipped a pedal. Not the best looking shoe, but the function is amazing.

I ordered these shoes just over a month ago. I bought them to use as my casual everyday shoes as well as my freeriding shoes. I recently went out to the trails to test them out. While my tires were slipping all over the place because the trails were still a bit muddy, these shoes never came off the pedals. The toe cap is nice and thick so even if you do hit something, it won't hurt. Also noteworthy, the sole at the bottom of the foot is significantly thicker than most other shoes. This means it won't bend as much at the ball of your foot when you walk. Needless to say, that doesn't make for the best walking shoes, but it makes for excellent freeriding shoes. This brings up another point: the Stealth rubber. On polished hardwood flooring or vinyl it won't stick very well, but on concrete or raw wood it will stick like none other. I have never worn other FiveTen shoes before so I can't compare these to the more expensive ones, but I can say I will most definitely buy from FiveTen again. As usual, the shipping was terrific.

Bought them because the women's specific Karvers just look horrible (come on 510, I might be a woman, but we don't all want things in girly purple). I was worried these would be too bulky, but they are great. Incredibly sticky and very stiff, much better than I thought they'd be. And very comfortable to walk in when I'm off the bike. Used with flat pedals with screws, so I don't know how well they'd work on regular flats, but I'm sure they'd be pretty good.

Designed for biking, I've come to use this as my everyday shoe. Great support and very versatile; I've used them for hiking, biking, climbing, running, playing soccer. They do just about everything. They're very plush and hug your foot. The one downside that I've noticed is that they have marked up a couple of my friends' floors; I suppose that's the price you pay though for rubber this sticky (and in any case, who uses linoleum these days anyways?).

So far, so good. Being a freeride/downhiller I was looking for shoe just to wear out, but I can see that this is a functional ride shoe (no cleats though). One con, for me anyway, is they are quite warm, but that's just me. Comfy, wide enough for my huge feet and look pretty cool. They do have a nice stiff sole, which would be good for riding and I like it because it's easier for me to walk as I have a really ugly/bad knee with lots of metal in it. Buy 'em NOW!

I bought the newer \'scribble\' pattern version of the 5-10 freerider. I really like this shoe for flat pedal riding. The sole is a good bit stiffer than most, and it is almost too sticky to the pedal. This is not a non marking sole, so dont wear them in the house. These shoes are not comfortable for casual wear, the sole is very solid. They seem to be made for one thing, riding. I like the construction, just the right amount of padding on the tongue, not an entire pillow on the top of your foot like some skate shoes. I like the profile of the sole, nothing wraping around the side of the foot to interfere with the crank, just a well though out riding shoe. But if you like to move your feet around when you ride, try another brand of shoe, these grip that well.

I also own and wear the Impact high-top version and low-top version, in addition to the Freerider. In comparing the three, the Impacts have much more padding and stick to the pedals much better. The Freeriders are more BMX oriented. Easier to slip into without having to untie the laces. The traction is what is a little different from the Impacts. The circular nubs that are the traction of the shoe aren't raised as much as the Impacts. This gives the shoe much less sticking power to the pedals. I'm assuming it is specifically for jumps where taking your feet off the pedals in the air is required. They definitely are not for downhill as the less traction provided by these shoes can cause your feet to bounce or skip around on the pedals. When I wear the Freeriders the wearer can feel the bottom of the shoe is almost concave; meaning the shoe does not feel completely flat on the pedals. It feels as if the sides of the bottom are making contact with the pedals, but the very center of the toebox makes little contact resulting in less traction as well. All in all they are decent. I would say if your strictly jumping, then these shoes are great. For freeride and downhill I would go with the Impacts. The Freeriders look cooler of course. I've not tried Vans, but I bet the Freeriders probably stick just as good if not better. I wouldn't mind checking out the Teva B-1 just out of curiousty, but the Five-ten Impacts coupled with Straitline pedals make my feet stick like glue to those pedals. Here's to no injuries.

Great shoe! A bit tighter in the toebox than the fiveten Karver. Next time I probably would order a 1/2 size larger but all is well for now. This shoe does the job for tooling around town on my Swobo. This shoe provides the extra sticky foot power for stopping and has more stiffness than my vans can provide for pedalling. Zappo did it again for providing fast, efficient service. Thanks.

I bought these shoes to go with my Easton Flatboy pedals for mountain bike riding. They stick to the pedals like glue! The fit is good, I\'m an 11.5/46 E and these shoes fit well. Not too narrow for riding and walking isn\'t bad at all and obviously better than walking in spd-equipped shoes. They feel like a skate shoe with a bit more sole between your foot and the ground. The black areas of the shoe are cordura like material and are very tough. The grey areas are some sort of synthetic. I\'ve beaten them up pretty well and other than getting dirty they are holding up very well. They have two vent holes on the inside that let in a little dirt once in a while and there\'s no way these things will keep your feet dry, but they never claim to either. The little vents work, but the shoes are still warmer on your feet than vented cycling shoes. I\'ve read great things about the durability of Five Ten shoes and these have so far lived up to the reputation of the brand.

Fantastic shoes! Great grip on the pedals. It\'s really like cheating. I had some other freeride shoes from 661 and thought they worked well, until I slid off the pedals and raked the back of my calf... They have yet to fail with a week in Whistler and several jump sessions. \r\nOne note though, while I love the soles, I am starting to see some seperation of the band that wraps the outside of the sole. Other reviewers have mentioned this too, and while I personally am not worried about it (a little glue should fix them up) it\'s something 5-10 will need to look at. \r\n\r\nEven with that said, I still love these shoes!!

I wanted a shoe that I can bike commute to work with and was comfortable enough for me to keep on all day long. The skate style doesn't hurt either! I own an older pair of Five Tens that I use for Freeriding on flat pedals, so I knew about their legendary grip. This newer style has nubuck leather and mesh uppers and felt comfortable both on and off the bike. The sole is a bit stiffer than a pair of Nike Dunks, which can be felt while pedaling, but is not a detriment while walking or running to catch a train. The extra traction on any surface is a big plus over any shoe, on the pedals you have to literally lift your foot up to move them, no sliding around at all. I'm a big fan! The icing on the cake was that Zappos delivered them for free the day after I ordered them! I love dealing with them!

I own and love the Five Ten Impact low shoes for Mountain Biking and BMX. When I saw these shoes with no reviews, I was a little unsure about them, but ordered them anyways. The Freeriders are awesome. They are like a cross between the Impact and a skate shoe, they have advantages from both. They have a nice stiff sole, bomber construction, nice sticky tread, but have a kind of street styling and don’t mark up the floors in your house like the impact. The sole isn’t so stiff that you can’t feel anything, it’s a good compromise between feeling and stiffness for biking. I’ve been using them for BMX racing and cruising around on any bike. I have no complaints. Fit is true. I wear a 12, I feel that other brands usually don’t have a true fit as the larger sizes and I end up with a 13 sometimes. I would use these for mountain biking, too.

Pretty new, but after a few days of use they are living up to my expectations. They stick well to flats, but don\'t look goofy like the Impact shoe. On the downside, they loose a lot of the padding and comfort of the Impact. I think in the end, this is a better choice for me since I run hot and these have a lot of ventilation. Spent a day digging jumps and despite rain and mud, the shoes cleaned up very easily and are no worse for wear.\r\n\r\nI\'m horribly flat-footed so no shoe is every really "supportive" but these are a minimalist shoe, so I may add a molded insole to make these better for long days in the saddle.

Great shoe. It is marketed as a Mountain Bike Shoe and I haven't really used it for anything but in front of my house at this point. That said it does grip the pedals well, but it is not especially stiff and it does not have special toe protection as I was under the impression the other 5.10 biking shoes did. Regardless, it is still a nice shoe, great for those looking for a skate type shoe for biking or just a casual shoe for around town. I'm giving it 4 stars since I thought it was going to have a more DH mountain bike design to it. The comfort is what is to be expected for a skate type shoe as well.
