I loved these shoes - however there were a few places inside each shoe that caused increasing discomfort. I unlaced one so I could see if there was something inside that was causing it - or if it was a design issue with seams and stitching and therefore the design. I found one of the spots that seemed to have created the pain and redness of my toes. This felt like a piece of the rubbery sole material and nothing that could b easily.
I'd also recommend:
I was replacing an old pair of a similar retired KEEN lace up bootie.

I should have listened to the other people who wrote reviews on these shoes. They are cute, but they run about 1/2 size smaller and the seams inside the shoe are so noticeable. I only tried one shoe on and I could feel the inside seams rubbing on my feet immediately. I returned them.

I could not review with stars because the shoe would have been comfortable if it had been true to size. Both shoes said size 9 but both were way too small. Had to send back. I typically love this brand. Decided to go with same brand but a different style.
