Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 Updates

The upper, midsole and the outsole of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 have been updated to provide runners a more stable, smoother, and faster running experience. The shoe continues to feature some of the unique technologies found in the Wave Inspire 13, but they have been modified to deliver a new level of performance.

The newest iteration of the Wave Inspire has a redesigned upper. It utilizes an open mesh construction for a more breathable and smoother in-shoe feel. It also has a softer collar for enhanced comfort and security.

The Wave Inspire 14 makes use of a modified midsole for a more responsive and springy ride. The technologies that are present in it are upgraded to provide over-pronators with the needed stability while running on the road.

The outsole of the shoe has a slightly modified design. It still uses the same rubber material, but the grooves are changed to provide improved traction on both wet and dry surfaces.

Upper

On the upper of the Wave Inspire 14 is the lightweight mesh material that delivers breathable coverage all throughout the run. It is highly stretchable that provides a more adaptive fit.

The mesh material also works perfectly with the Dynamotion Fit technology. It provides a comfortable fit in the forefoot. The collar design offers added comfort and security for the heel.

In the medial and lateral sides are the stitched overlays which give structural integrity. The overlays also provide a better foot lockdown, as well as an enhanced look.

Lastly, this running shoe utilizes semi-stretchable round laces. The lacing system secures the foot comfortably, and it has extra eyelets to further secure the ankle while running. It works well with the padded tongue, which gives heightened in-shoe comfort.

Midsole

The midsole of the Wave Inspire 14 utilizes the new Mizuno Cloudwave technology. It is configured to provide a smoother and softer running experience. This component also offers responsive cushioning, impact protection, and improved guidance for an efficient heel-to-toe transition.

The Cloudwave technology functions well with the fan-shaped wave plate. The waves are at different heights and are specifically designed for maximum stability and added cushioning.

Also in the midsole are the U4ic and U4icX foam compounds. They are designed to bring lightweight and comfortable cushioning. They’re also made for a high-rebound performance and a more energized ride.

The SmoothRide technology is designed to give a comfortable and satisfying performance. It aids the runner by reducing the swift acceleration and deceleration of the foot, promoting a smoother transition from the landing to the toe-off.

Outsole

On the outsole of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 are the blown rubber material and the X10 technology. These elements provide the necessary traction and durability needed for road running.

The blown rubber compound is strategically placed in the forefoot for durability and added cushioning. It has also been configured to provide better traction.

On the other hand, the X10 technology ensures traction and durability in the heel area. It is engineered to protect the rest of the sole unit, especially in high-wear areas. The potentially abrasive act of striking the heel on the ground is mitigated by the presence of this component.

A few flex grooves are also present in the outsole of the shoe. They are configured to provide runners a more flexible, and smoother heel-to-toe transition.

Comfort and Breathability

The breathability of the shoe is unquestionable. The Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 offers breathable foot coverage. The mesh material keeps a well-ventilated and moisture-free interior environment. The mesh is also thin and very light that it disappears in the foot while running.

When it comes to comfort, the shoe has a minor issue. While the collar and the padded tongue aim for comfort, the stitched overlays contrast that benefit. The overlays feel rough, causing skin irritation and discomfort.

Stability

The stability level of the Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 is impressive. It is the same with its predecessor. It provides the much-needed support for moderate and overpronators. The Cloudwave Technology of this running shoe affords a right balance of responsive cushioning and a stable ride. The Wave Technology also brings a smoother heel-to-toe transition.

Fit

The Wave Inspire 14 fits true to size and has a standard width. The shoe has a snug fit in the midfoot and forefoot. There is no doubt that the shoe can fit runners with average foot measurements. The heel area is a bit narrow, so a break-in period is necessary to achieve the perfect heel fit.

Traction

The Mizuno Wave Inspire 14 is specially designed for the roads. The shoe provides reliable traction on paved surfaces because of the presence of the blown rubber compound and the X10 technology. It is even efficient on wet surfaces. On softer grounds and light trails, grip remains acceptable.

Durability

Just like its predecessor, the Wave Inspire 14 is very durable. It is made from high-quality materials that can withstand the damaging elements of the road. The upper and the outsole are well-designed and sturdy. Even after running several miles, the shoe showed no significant sign of wear.
