Brooks PureFlow 7 Updates

The same midsole technologies and outsole design have been used in the 7th version of the Brooks PureFlow. The only update to the model is in its upper design which was modified to deliver a more breathable and unrestrictive fit.

The stretch-woven material replaces the one-layer mesh material that’s present in the PureFlow 6. The stretch-woven upper still delivers a comfortable coverage while enhancing the overall fit.

This running shoe now also has an internal bootie design to heighten comfort and agreeability of the in-shoe experience further.

Upper

The newest version of the PureFlow line features a stretch-woven fabric that offers the foot with a lightweight and well-ventilated coverage. It also provides an unrestrictive fit. Along with the seamless upper material is an internal bootie construction that provides a soft and comfortable in-shoe feel.

A reliable lacing system helps in providing a snug midfoot wrap. The durable laces are semi-round, and the length is just right; not too long and not too short.

The tongue is softly padded, and it stays in place because of a loop on its anterior side that connects to the shoelaces. A Wraparound Heel Comfort Collar also provides additional cushioning and comfort. It also provides a bit of security for the foot.

Midsole

The Brooks PureFlow 7 utilizes the BioMoGo DNA midsole foam. This full-length unit is much lighter compared to the traditional midsole cushioning systems, yet it provides durable protection for long-distance runs. It also adapts to every stride for a smoother and responsive ride.

The Omega Flex Grooves in the midsole is designed for flexibility. These trenches efficiently flex as the foot moves in different directions, offering maximum flexibility without reducing underfoot cushioning. Moreover, they work well with the Forefoot Dynamic Flex Grid to deliver wide-spread forefoot flexibility.

Lastly, the Rounded Heel design minimizes strain on the joints. It provides full-body alignment, making every step more natural and empowered.

Outsole

The shoe utilizes a blown rubber compound in its outsole. The blown rubber aims to provide light yet reliable traction on the road. It also targets the bolstering of durability in the high-wear areas. The outsole unit is also configured to deliver flexibility and some responsiveness.

Breathability and Comfort

The stretch-woven upper of the Brooks PureFlow 7 is breathable enough to keep the foot dry and well-ventilated throughout the run. The internal bootie construction delivers a comfortable and adaptive foot-wrap.

Aside from improving the overall fit and foot security, the softly-padded tongue and collar also give runners with enhanced comfort. The fabric used in these sections is smooth, so the possibility of blisters and irritation is reduced.

Performance

When it comes to responsiveness and flexibility, the Brooks PureFlow 7 won’t disappoint. The cushioning is soft and durable. It adapts to the natural movement of the foot for a more satisfying running experience.

This running shoe continues to offer high-rebound and energized performance on the road by utilizing a nearly identical midsole design to its predecessor. The midsole foam protects the foot from impact and efficiently returns the energy for a more powerful toe-off.

The traction of the shoe is just right for roads and other paved surfaces. The outsole performs well in dry and slightly wet running conditions.

Though the traction is adequate, the overall outsole design is a bit annoying. The presence of prominent holes easily attracts small stones and debris. The stones tend to get stuck in the gaps, and if not removed immediately, they can be pushed further inside, possibly damaging the sole unit. This discrepancy may also create discomfort during the running session.

Fit

The Brooks PureFlow 7 runs true to size. It has a snug fit from the heel to the forefoot. The laces provide reliable midfoot security, and there is enough room in the toe box for toe-splay.

The internal bootie construction brings an unrestrictive foot wrap. It further enhances the overall fit and delivers a more comfortable in-shoe feel.

Durability

Unfortunately, Brooks has failed to deliver the sturdiness that is expected from this series. The overall outsole design is unsatisfying. The blown rubber is too soft that after a few miles, it has already started to wear off.

In the effort to deliver extensive flexibility, Brooks had apparently forgotten about durability. After only a few uses, the outsole showed significant damage in the forefoot area; small cracks started to appear. The rubber material had been poorly attached to the sole unit, and the glue that’s used for it was also visible.

Similar Road Running Shoes

Nike Flex RN 2017

Just like the PureFlow 7, the Flex RN 2017 offers responsive cushioning, lightweight performance, and a flexible ride. This running shoe utilizes the Phylon midsole for springy steps and smooth heel-to-toe transitions. It also has the Tri-star outsole pattern for flexibility, as well as a rounded heel design for a more natural, less painful foot movement. Lastly, the engineered mesh upper delivers a breathable and comfortable coverage.

Brooks Cascadia 12

The Cascadia 12 is another flexible road running shoe from Brooks. It utilizes the same BioMoGo DNA foam for a soft and responsive cushioning that’s ideal for quick and long-distance runs. The midsole offers flexibility and springiness while the outsole design heightens traction and cushioning. Finally, this shoe is as breathable as the Brooks PureFlow 7.

Adidas Duramo 8

The Adidas Duramo 8 is a neutral running shoe that offers a right blend of durability, responsiveness, and flexibility. The upper of this model provides a well-ventilated and comfortable experience. The midsole is equipped with a Cloudfoam technology that is designed explicitly for responsive cushioning. The lightweight midsole foam also delivers soft underfoot protection. Performance-wise, the Duramo 8 won’t disappoint, especially when on the road.

Conclusion

The Brooks PureFlow 7 is a very responsive, fast and comfortable running shoe. But sadly, runners won’t be able to enjoy the shoe’s performance because of durability issues. It is a good option for those who are looking for an affordable pair, but not for consumers who value durability. Overall, the PureFlow 7 is not as satisfying as its predecessor.
