ASICS GT–2000 5 vs. ASICS GT–2000 6

The ASICS GT - 2000 6 features several enhancements in its upper and sole unit. The updates aim to deliver increased support, a lighter feel, and enhanced breathability.

The upper utilizes a new mesh material for a smoother feel and more breathable coverage. It also has fewer overlays that still promote an accommodating fit.

The ASICS GT - 2000 6 also features the full-length FlyteFoam midsole. It replaces the old FluidRIDE midsole technology used in the ASICS GT – 2000 5. This new material is much lighter, and it provides a more durable and responsive cushioning.

The Dynamic DuoMax technology and Guidance Trusstic System have been redesigned. The shoe now provides an enhanced level of support. It also guides the foot to achieve a smoother heel-to-toe transition.

Likewise, the outsole has a few updates that heightens durability, flexibility, and traction.

Upper

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 utilizes a smooth, one-piece mesh material on its upper. The mesh offers a breathable coverage, and it wraps the foot seamlessly for an irritation-free environment. Ventilation pores are added to the medial side for extra breathability. Moreover, the shoe has fewer overlays, but they still provide the foot with snugness and security.

The plastic external heel counter from the previous ASICS GT versions is no longer present in the GT – 2000 6. The removal of the heel counter affects the shoe’s overall steadiness and lockdown of the heel.

The tongue, heel collar, and inner lining are moderately padded. These sections of the upper add a bit of comfort, while also enabling a more secure foot lockdown.

A traditional lacing system adjusts the fit to suit the wearer’s preference. However, it comes with two lace loops on the lateral and medial sections of the midfoot. These cable-like fabric add-ons further adjust the tightness or looseness of the coverage since they’re directly connected to the shoelaces.

Midsole

The durable FlyteFoam midsole is a full-length foam that provides adaptive underfoot cushioning. Compared to its predecessor, the platform of the ASICS GT – 2000 6 is much lighter and more responsive. On the top of the FlyteFoam is a single layer of SpEVA foam that provides high-rebound cushioning.

In addition to the Dynamic DuoMax, the Guidance Trusstic System in the shoe helps distribute impact and provides lightweight support for the entire foot.

Lastly, the shoe comes with a new removable Ortholite sock liner that provides added cushioning and enhanced comfort.

Outsole

A few minor enhancements are added to the outsole of the ASICS GT – 2000 6. The well-known ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR) is placed in the heel area for durability. This high-abrasion carbon rubber is tough enough for paved surfaces. The outsole has light tread pattern for reliable traction on the road.

The forefoot of the shoe has the DuraSponge material, which is made from blown ASICS High Abrasion Rubber (AHAR). This material provides cushioning and flexibility in addition to traction and protection.

The newest iteration of the ASICS GT - 2000 continues to feature the Guidance Line technology. It is a vertical flex groove that runs through the entire length of the sole unit, and its purpose is to encourage maximum flexibility.

Comfort and Breathability

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 is extremely breathable due to its light upper mesh. The small perforations on the medial side also provide a breezy environment that keeps the foot cool and dry all throughout the run. The soft fabric lining, the padded collar, and the soft underfoot cushioning provide excellent comfort.

Fit

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 provides a snug fit from the heel to the forefoot. The mesh upper adapts to the natural shape of the foot, thus delivering an agreeable fit. Midfoot security is impressive due to the shoe’s lacing system. The laces are highly adjustable and can be tightened without putting pressure on the foot. It also has extra eyelets to further secure the heel.

Stability

The Dynamic DuoMax technology and the Guidance Trusstic System reduce the likelihood of overpronation. These technologies control the movement of the foot and provide lightweight support throughout the gait cycle. The removable sock liner also provides added foot stability for a more efficient and stable ride.

ASICS has removed the external heel counter of the shoe which was present in the previous version. The removal results in a sleeker design, but it reduces the stability in the heel area. The rearfoot stability is still good, but it would have been more impressive had the external heel counter been retained.

Traction

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 provides a good level of traction on the road. The tread pattern and the carbon rubber perform well on paved surfaces. Even on a slightly wet surface and on light trails, the shoe does not disappoint and the grip is adequate.

Durability

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 is undeniably tough when it comes to road running. It uses high-quality materials from the upper to the bottom. The updates in the upper’s design and enhancements to the cushioning system surely shave off some weight, but not at the expense of the anticipated durability.

Compared to other stability running shoes

The ASICS GT – 2000 6 is one of the most reliable stability shoes from ASICS. Considering the support level, durability, cushioning, and fit, the shoe is comparable to models from other brands.

Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18

The Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 is a popular shoe from Brooks. It has a lightweight design and a heel-to-toe drop of 12mm. The shoe provides a high level of support, an impressive fit, and agreeable breathability. The Progressive Diagonal Rollbar (PDR) technology that is placed in the midsole efficiently controls overpronation. Even though it has a sturdy outsole configuration, the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 18 is still able to provide an acceptable level of flexibility through its flex grooves.

New Balance 990 v4

The New Balance 990 v4 is not as breathable as the ASICS GT – 2000 6. It also has a heavier weight. However, the stability feature of the shoe is as impressive as that of the ASICS GT – 2000 6. The shoe features a highly supportive design; it utilizes the ENCAP midsole technology, which offers a mix of cushioning and steadiness. It has a 12mm heel-to-toe drop, a soft platform, and a durable outsole composition.

Saucony Guide 10

The Saucony Guide 10 is a lightweight stability shoe designed for road running. With a heel-to-toe drop of 8mm, the shoe provides impressive support, plush cushioning, and forefoot flexibility. The upper of the shoe utilizes a dynamic engineered mesh material that aims to deliver breathability. Like the ASICS GT – 2000 6, this running shoe provides a snug fit from the heel to the forefoot.

Conclusion

The major improvements in the upper and the cushioning of the ASICS GT – 2000 6 is truly satisfying. The updates make the shoe lighter, more breathable, and more responsive. At 303 grams for the men’s version and 241 grams for the women’s version, the ASICS GT – 2000 6 makes sure to stay supportive and comfortable throughout a run.
