When I first tried on these boots I thought they were going to work although the toe box was not entirely comfortable, but after wearing them for 2 hours the balls of my feet really hurt. They don't have much in the way of cushioning. I've been wearing an old pair of Merrell hiking boots for years and they are super comfortable and hate to give them up but the sole is starting to separate from the uppers so it's time to let them go. I am returning these and ordering a pair of Merrell Moab 2.

Cons of shoe: I have a wider ball of foot (for reference, Brooks tennis shoes fit nicely), so this shoe was too narrow and I could feel my little toes being squished against the sides. The shoe sole also feels a little flat and inflexible, even for a trail shoe. Finally, the shoelaces were ridiculously short. There's barely enough lace to tie them, let alone double knot, if you needed that. Pros: Very nice looking shoe. Also seems well constructed. Ended up returning because of fit.

This is a comfortable, relatively lightweight hiking shoe. I normally wear a US Ladies size 9 or a European 40. Based on previous reviews, I'm glad I sized up to a 9.5. This is a comfortable fit for walking or hiking with lightweight socks, but it would be a tight fit for thick socks. Consider sizing up at least a half size, or a full size if you plan to wear bulky socks.

Love the look and weight of the boot. Size felt very small with a thicker winter sock on. I'm returning for a full size up and hope that does the trick.

These have held up in all kinds of weather and remain my go to footware for all travel.. warm weather, cold and rainy. I do think nik wax makes a difference for waterproofing. Love these, especially the wide with option.

These boots look beautiful. I read reviews warning about them being small and tight but decided to give them a try. I am a true size 7M. I tried the 7 and 71/2. I could have gone with the 71/2 but the boots were too narrow and squeezed my feet. I am 5'3" and 115 lbs. If they were normal width I would have given them 5 stars. Had to return them.

I returned these in favor of the Teva / Ahnu Montara III Event Boot in Deep Wine, which I love. The Vasque Monolith was just not very attractive and didn't feel quite as comfortable out of the box as the Montara did. Although these felt true to size, the made my feet look extremely large.

It may be my foot changing as I wear BROOKS ADDICTION WALKERS and my feet do great. These started my heel pain to recur, minimally, even after a 15 minute trial period. But they seem very well made, very strong, and I wish I could wear them.

I had to buy new hiking shoes to replace by beloved Montrails before a hiking trip through South America, including Patagonia and the desert. I like low shoes but even some shoes advertised as "low" still rub up against the ankle (I tried the Oboz low and they were not low enough). Not these. They fit perfectly and required no break-in (I did wear them to the gym a few times before the trip). I never had a blister or any rubbing on my feet. They are water proof but since they are low they obviously will not keep out water if your foot goes into a stream, but they do dry quickly. I wear an 8.5 or sometimes a 9 in regular shoes; i sized up to a 9.5 for hiking so my toes wouldn't get jammed on the downhills, and that worked perfectly (a 9 also fit but for hiking I always size up). They are lightweight but do look a little bulky; on the plus side, they have a substantial enough sole and body to handle rough and rocky trails. I thought the arch support was good but I don't need any additional arch support.

Wore these ice fishing and hiking this past weekend. They were great! Kept my feet warm and dry! I only wore one pair of thin hiking wool socks. My only minor complaint was the width was tight. It did stretch some after use. Would recommend.

I normally wear a 10.5 in sneakers but went to a size 11 in these boots because with hiking boots it's good to go at least a half size larger in my experience for long term comfort and to accommodate thicker socks. I have narrow feet so I purchased the normal width and these fit very well. If you have a wider foot I would go with the wider size. These also look great with jeans for wearing casually to work or out. The soles grip well and the boots are comfortable walking around all day. I haven't tested the waterproof features yet.

This is a beautiful boot; and pleasingly light weight. I wear a 10 and have a normal heel size, but wide forefoot. The result is that if I find a wide enough shoe, the heel slips. I think I could have made this boot work, but alas, the toes curve to a more pointed shape, and there was constant rubbing on the outside of my big toe. I reluctantly sent them back. I gave them 4 stars because of the toe rubbing. Why do Men's boots have a more generous curve, but not Women's ? Thanks Zappos for being patient with someone who is a hard fit and sends 2/3 of what I order back. We'll get there eventually.

While I haven’t had the chance to get these boots out on a trail, they feel very comfortable out of the box, and don’t look as “clunky” as other hiking boots I’ve seen.

Lace hooks and laces are not compatible. Hooks too small or lace needs to be round. Inexcusable design flaw for a legacy boot company in my opinion. Otherwise, comfortable, light weight, great boot but a little overpriced.

The fit was true to size. (Wide size could have been a little wider.) Insole does not have much cushion for such a rugged shoe, & only moderate comfort in arch. I wish they would have used a heavier, cord type shoe lace - I can see these getting stretched out & breaking in time. Overall, though, you just can't find a shoe made as well in big box stores. It is what I was looking for in a hiking/utility shoe.
