I just purchased this pack and while it's not perfect, I'd love to address some of the concerns stated in other reviews. I was thrilled to find this pack because it is adjustable for size. I am 5'11, and was shocked to hear that individuals much shorter than me have had a hard time finding packs that fit well, because in my experience, most of them are made for shorter people! I've been searching for months and most women's packs are not adjustable for torso size. This one does a great job of loading the weight right at the hip bones, which makes carrying a fully loaded pack an absolute dream. Very comfortable. It's worth it to be fitted an an outdoor retailer--you'll be much more comfortable to get a pack that fits well. Another must for me--this pack fits a 3L water reservoir (purchased separately). It is EASY to feed the tube through the opening of the pack! I think too many people are trying to feed the mouthpiece end through first, which would certainly be challenging. I just disconnected the tube from the reservoir, and used that (much smaller end) to feed through the hole. Literally took two seconds and there was no struggle. This pack DOES come with a magnet to attach the mouthpiece of the hose. The magnet near the mouthpiece is already installed. The receiving magnet just needs to be hooked to the strap of your choice, I attached mine next to the receiving end of the buckle of the chest strap. Now your water hose easily attaches with a magnet to the chest strap and is SO convenient. (You can actually buy the magnet pieces separately from Osprey and use them on another brand of pack as well.) The purple color really isn't purple. It's the color of wine. Very pretty. The hip pockets will hold my iPhone 7. There's no way it will hold an iPhone Plus or any other larger phone. The vertical zipper on the outside is not my favorite, but I use it for flatter items not used frequently such as maps, tissue, garbage bag, mosquito repellant wipes, hand warmers, etc. I also wish there were some hooks on the outside of the pack to attach other equipment (snowshoes, for example). Also, as much as I love the larger pocket right on top, it does eat into the room available in the main compartment. My only real complaint about the bag is that because the water reservoir sits inside the main compartment (in its own sleeve), it uses a lot of room in that main compartment, especially if you're frequently using 3L of water like me. My last pack was a 22L and had more room! I often hike alone and carry all of the "ten essentials" for peace of mind, and it's a tight squeeze. During the winter when I'll have more layers, I bought some separate 24" buckle straps so I can just attach my coat to the outside. Also, because the water reservoir uses so much room, it's pretty much necessary to empty the pack, load the water, then re-load your other supplies. There's no way you'll be able to put a full water reservoir in the pack without taking (nearly) everything out first. All in all, a great buy and has most of what you'd expect. The included rain cover is handy and I appreciate the loops to hold my poles. My top priority was a pack that fit me well for day hikes and this fits the bill. I'll happily trade any shortcomings for being able to carry a heavy pack without pain or strain.

This is the perfect personal item backpack for my trip to Europe on the super-stringent airlines. I love my Osprey rolling bag, so can't wait to try this out. It's simple but has just enough organization inside. Plus, I can swing the shoulder off and reach into the zippered pocket without taking the whole backpack off (major plus). There aren't any outside pockets for drinks, but I think I'll just put one inside.

Osprey packs area always solid, and this one is no exception. This is a great little duffel bag - sturdy, well-made, and with a comfortable strap that can be used/worn flexibly. I love this color too! Unfortunately, this was a little smaller than what I needed, so I am returning it, but if you're looking for a small bag for daily excursions or light trips, this bag would be awesome.

Fantastic for school and outdoors. Used daily for 5 months and it has been great. The bottom of the bag is a little beat up, but it belongs to a 5 year old boy so I think it has faired pretty well considering!

Great daypack without the bulk.

Excellent day pack for hiking and comfortable on my petite 5’3” frame. My iPhone 7 fits in the waist pockets. The straps are easily adjustable and the back design means there’s air so no sweating. The options for adjustment are a bit overwhelming and would appreciate a more streamlined design but otherwise perfect.

Lots of good pockets and organizing options. But the zippers would catch and seemed not very well made but the actual back pack seemed to be made well. I sent it back because of the zippers.

Awesome backpack. Wanted a bag to carry camera gear comfortably. None of the camera specific choices worked well for me. This big mostly open pack fit all I carry. Loved that it was adjustable. Have another smaller Osprey backpack & always loved that one too.

Incredible, very light weight and comfortable.

I was easily able to pack as much into this backpack as I have into a carry-on size hard rolling suitcase, and it was reasonably comfortable to carry to and from trains and subways. I appreciated the outer straps that let me squeeze it down to make sure it would be carry-on size, the 3-sided un-zippability of the cover so I could open it up like a suitcase, and the multiple zippered compartments. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that I think it was a tiny bit long for my torso, and I belatedly discovered that Osprey has a separate women's Fairpoint 40 that might have fit me better. (I bought this one so close to our departure date that I didn't have time to investigate the women's version.) Even if this might not be the best pack for me to carry all day, it was great for travel.

Exceptional back support technology, and light weight.

Overall I think this is an amazing pack with some nice features. I bought this to be a combination pack for use as both a carry on pack for flights and a camping pack for long weekends. I just finished my first trip with it and it performed really well. It easily fits in the overhead bin and the zip up cover keeps the straps neatly out if the way and makes the pack very sleek. I also really appreciated the messenger bag strap. It made it easy to slip through the aisle and to quickly grab it from the car and go. The handle straps are also well placed for the same purpose. I was able to fit everything that I needed for a five day trip and could have probably taken a few extra things if needed. For my needs the different compartments were laid out perfectly. My only two complaints would be that the water bottle pockets are in an odd place and you have to choose between the bottom cinch strap or carrying a bottle. I would have also liked it if the messenger bag strap had a padding piece for when you are standing in a line for a long time. Overall, I would definitely buy it again and I expect it will last for a long time.

I looked at a lot of daypacks to find this one. My specs were: it needed a padded waist belt with pockets, room enough for my camera gear when traveling and hiking, adjustable so it fits my torso for optimum weight carry, small enough for international carry-on, under-seat fit, and no bright colors (not recommended for African safaris). I started with manufacturers like Osprey that make packs for the female torso. I read reviews on several packs and then went to REI to be fitted for this pack. I recommend doing that, because their customer helpers really know their packs, benefits of each and they know how to fit you. At first I thought this rode to high up on my torso, but when adjusted and filled, it hit perfectly where it should. I would have purchased it from REI but they didn’t have black, only bright colors. So I went to Zappos, which has fantastic customer service and free shipping. I’ve hooked round clips on the shoulder panels and hooks to my camera, which I hang around my neck. The pack carries the weight of my camera rather than my neck. See picture.

The odd shape requires a different packing style from most conventional backpacks. Fabric didn't seem as durable as other options. Bottom pocket makes it more difficult to stand upright on its own. I like the more subtle branding/logos on this model compared to some that are very in-your-face.

This is a great pack, just the same size as the Pottery Barn Small.

Overall, this is a beautiful bag. I purchased this because my son had purchase one for his trip to Europe. I bought the olive green/light blue. Great organization, plenty of room. The only reason I am returning it is because at 5'1" it fits very strangely and very high on my back (even thought I got the XS/S).

Very well made with lots of features and relatively light weight, However, I am returning it. Even though there is adjustment in the back panel, there was no way I could I get it to fit comfortably. I also found the pockets on the waist straps were cumbersome and useless for my needs. I just prefer a simpler pack.

Ordered the product based on the online description and style shown. The product that I received looked nothing like the product online. The customer service representative told me that Osprey could not guarantee a product to be the same as which is described on the website.

I have a 20L pack from another company that is 90% perfect, but the frame lacks vertical rigidity. The Manta 20L seemed like a good solution, given that I absolutely LOVE my Osprey Porter 30L travel pack. When the pack arrived I was surprised by how heavy and bulky it is for such a small capacity, but I loaded it up and it was quite comfortable. However, I ended it sending it back for one fatal flaw: I simply could not get the hip belt zippers closed one-handed. I use these pockets constantly, they are the most important feature of a daypack for me, and the Manta 20L ones are poorly designed.

My partner and I bought these packs over 2 years ago now. They still look brand new, despite using them quite a lot. We have the large size (42 Litres). This size is perfect for us, and we intend on using them when we travel full time. I only have a few issues with this bag. 1. The laptop compartment is at the front of the bag. This changes how the weight is distributed. It should be against your back. 2. The water bottle holders at the front are pretty useless. If your bag isn't completely full, you can use them. But with the straps going over the top, it's still not very convenient or secure. 3. I wish there were more compartments for little pieces. Apart from those issues, I love these bags and do recommend them.

Spent 38 days on the road in Europe with this bag traveling by car, train, uber, ship and air. Great bag. Made the mistake of loaning it to my wife. She fell in love with it. Will be buying another.

Just returned from several weeks in France and used the Daylite everyday. It was my personal bag on the plane and my urban bag while traveling cities. I loved that the Daylite securely fit over my carryon suitcase extendable handle when walking through airports or to hotels. The pockets were very adequate and the pack was comfortable as a sling over one shoulder or carried on my back. My one big complaint was that my small cycling water bottles were not secure in the side pockets. They would often fall out when I took the pack off. Osprey should fix this with a small cinchable strap as they have on some other packs. I know I could purchase the water bladder but I don't care for those in an urban setting. I could also put a water bottle inside the pack but that's also not very desirable.

Side handle and d rings for straps are too far back that when you use then too carry its awkward. The bag tilts in an awkward angle that hits your leg annoyingly. Overall great bag. Returning. Waiting for the redesign. Thanks osprey :)

Yes I could rate this bag higher, I would! I have just finished a three week trip through Indonesia, Thailand, and Cambodia. This bag performed in a way that exceeded all of my expectations! It was room enough to handle all of my dive gear along with the clothes that I would need for the time that I was there. They was only 1 small plane that I was not able to use the overhead luggage bin with. In that case, the shoulder straps stove quickly and completely out of sight, adding very little bulk to the bag. The abundance of pockets and side areas for keeping and separating my essentials, really makes this a functional bag. You outdid yourselves with this one, Osprey! Thanks for such a terrific experience!
