I followed the website advice and ordered a half size up; my normal size is 8.5 Wide and the 9 Wide fits perfectly. I like the purple accents and shoelaces but suspect the purple panel on the front of the tongue will be the first thing to wear out; it's a soft synthetic material that won't hold up to abrasion. I have not tried hiking in these boots yet, but so far they are comfortable and roomy on my feet and don't rub at the ankles. I don't feel much arch support under my foot, but the standard insoles are removable and can be replaced with orthotics if you need them. Overall, I would say this is a good buy for someone who doesn't want to pay a fortune and plans only light to moderate hiking.

Very happy with this boot. Great fit and has held up well.

Comfortable. They were a little lower cut around the ankles.

At first I thought this boot was a little narrow but Zappos graciously sent an wider boot and I ended up returning the wider boot and I love this boot already. Thank you. ; )

These are the shoes I needed for my uniform, however, I see how they will be uncomfy in the top crease of my foot. Plus, I found a cheaper pair from Columbia that are more comfy and adequate. Great ankle support, decent cushion, returned because I didn't want to pay $100 after finding something adequate for $60.

Very pleased with the fit. Very comfortable while walking. Looks more dressy than expected...could be worn anywhere !

The shoe looks great and they are light on the foot. However, the toe box felt really odd and was not comfortable.

After reading reviews I decided to take a chance and order these boots in two sizes (9 and 9.5) since I typically wear an 8.5. Both sizes were too small and felt very narrow by my toes (I have average width feet). I really liked the style so I decided to return the 9 and 9.5 and order a 10 thinking maybe the bigger size would have a little more wiggle room in the toe area. I was wrong. The only difference was the length (expected). I ultimately returned the 10 as well and ordered a different brand (not received yet). Thank you Zappos for being so great with returns!

Returning these. Loved my prior version of these boots - but the new version does not live up to the old. The old one was comfortable - I think they had something called memory foam and felt like you were walking on air. They fit well both on the foot and closed well at the top. This new version is a much stiffer feel to it (no memory foam) and they fit very loosely at the top. I may have learned to live with this - but the first time I tightened the laces one of the eyelets came right out of the leather. This brand used to be very high quality - but seems to have really gone down hill. I notice a "Michelin" name on one tag and the sole - no longer "hi-Tec" - maybe that's when the quality turned.

I bought my usual size, but when they arrived and I put them on, realized my toes were hitting the end. I returned those and got a size larger than normal. Since I plan to use them for hiking, I wanted to be sure I had plenty of room for heavy hiking socks. Nice color, sturdy feel. I have not yet worn them for any kind of hiking, but expect them to be just what I needed.

I love the way they look. A little big on me, but I will wear with a heavier sock for hiking.

I love them. Nice color combination. I haven't hiked in them yet, so I may update.

Perfect for hiking!

These boots are awesome! I originally ordered by usual size which is a 6.5. The boot runs a bit small in the toe box so I exchanged them for a size 7. They now fit perfectly. Heading to Arizona for some hiking a couple of weeks and I can't wait to try them out on the trail. Great fit. Lots of support and very comfortable.

These shoes are heavy and a bit clunky. I don't see how they can be comfortable wearing them all day, but they would probably do a good job of protecting your feet and keeping them dry. The biggest problem is that although they fit well at the toe, the heel slips badly. I tried at least two different sizes and I keep getting major heel slip. I returned these shoes.

I ordered these shoes two times, each time the grommets on the top of the boots were missing.

They are true to size. I always order a 9 in boots by I wear an 8.5 normally. They have plenty of room for thick wool socks. They are stiff at first so plan to break them in. Very cute style and sturdy construction. Warm and waterproof. Great boot for the price.

The size seemed right on. Once I had them laced up, they were really really stiff against my lower leg. There would be no way that I could hike in them for hours on end. I ended up sending them back.

Narrow toe box wide heel

I bought these for my husband. He was complaining the old ones wee wore out. He was ecstatic! They fit perfectly.

I like these lightweight hiking shoes. They are comfortable, sturdy and light weight. Be sure to order 1/2 size up as the length runs a little small.

This is my first pair of hiking boots. They were comfortable from the beginning. I tried four different pair and these hands-down be comparable boots at same price or higher. I will use these on snow and ice in MN. I wear am 8.5 shoe but got a 9 after reading reviews and it was the right decision. My foot is a bit wider with a high instep but these fit fine

I am a true 8--sometimes even a 7.5, and these hiking shoes were too short. I could feel from just a few minutes in them that a hike would be agonizing: my big toe was hitting the front like it might with shoes that were too small. Might (sorta) be tolerated with another kind of shoe, but not a hiking shoe. I might give the 8.5 a chance but otherwise these are definitely going back. These definitely run small in length.
Zappos Reviewer on December 31, 2018
These are at least 2 sizes too small. I will not order this brand in the future, just too much of a hassle having to keep going to a UPS store to return them.

I got the same shoe(Altitude IV) about 5 years ago, and they have been awesome. I've loved them, and used the older ones doing farm work, yard work, hiking, and daily wear. The new ones look as good as the previous version. But, I think the new ones are lacking as compared to the original Altitude IV shoes. * The only way I was able to identify the old(previous shoe) version is the label sown into the inside of the tongue of my old shoe still showed "Altitude IV 9W by Hi-Tec". But bad news folks. The new shoe does NOT have any identifying information that the shoe model information. So, in 4-5 years when I want a replacement, I won't know the model, because it's not identified anywhere on the shoe. Summary: Seems like Hi-Tec has slipped back in their quality based on the item mentioned above. Hope the shoe wears and feels as good as the previous version. -Randy
