Once upon a time, everyone shuffled around in slippers with ears, characters, or frayed holes (because they'd never found another pair they liked). At Christmas, people opened new pairs of novelty slippers and pretended that they were delighted. Then they ate boxfuls of festive chocolates to cheer themselves up.
In 2007 everything changed. Bedroom Athletics™ arrived — with the Marilyn. Cozy, cool, and quirky, the Marilyn was a slipper boot with a faux fur exterior and real suede sole. The Marilyn shot to the top of everyone's Christmas list. Style magazines raved, John Lewis stores were stampeded, and the Marilyn sold out.
Bedroom Athletics was catapulted into the limelight by this now-iconic design. It's been imitated and reproduced, but never with the original attention to form and fit. We spent time developing the Marilyn slipper boot so that it would wear beautifully and stay comfy for ages. The Marilyn was the only desirable choice in the slipper department. It reinvented the slipper as something that stylish young people would want to wear — and be seen in. It fit into a long-empty niche and made our business overnight.
