Baffin

Baffin Logo
Baffin is focused on becoming the undisputed global leader in performance footwear, providing quality, comfort, aesthetics and value through the technical innovation, with a focus on creating the ultimate boot for extreme conditions. Polar explorers have come to appreciate the unique qualities of Baffin boots. Doug Stoup, a celebrated polar adventurer, used Baffin boots to travel over 1,000 kilometers across the Antarctic. In 2006, at least three separate international expeditions chose Baffin boots to get to the North Pole, including, of course, Baffin's own polar trekking team.

When polar explorers trek to the North or the South Pole they subject their footwear to the most demanding conditions imaginable. Day after day they exert themselves to the point of exhaustion, pulling their equipment over the rough and unrelenting terrain. They lose as much as one pound of body weight each day in perspiration and burned calories. At night they sleep in small tents where the temperature can drop as low as -60°C (-76°F), freezing their boots. Cold feet and blisters, that might not be given a second thought in other situations, can be fatal in this environment.

While traditional molded boots are suitable for some conditions, they are not ideal for cold temperatures. In the early 90s Baffin realized that if they combined their leading molding technology with a foam-based inner boot system, they could create a new hybrid style of high performance footwear. Since then Baffin has developed new materials and combined them in new, innovative combinations. A good example is the unrivaled 8-layer combination of materials that are used in the boots that are rated for -100ºC (-148ºF).

Over the years, Baffin has created a line of industry-leading footwear that performs in extreme conditions for an ever-growing list of loyal users and activities, including snowmobiling, ice-fishing, hunting, mushing and working in industries like construction, oil, mining, forestry, and outdoor winter recreation. Because of this, Baffin has become the leader in footwear for all your cold weather needs.

Super comfy soles. Somewhat tight around the toe box area. Seemed like great boots but after walking around the house for awhile I found the top part of the boot (the opening) to rub in a not so great way. Thought these were made well and nice quality. Pretty cute too but I'm looking for that perfect boot!

Heed the advice of other reviewers -- these boots run very large. I ordered a size down from my usual 13 to 12 and they were still huge. I tried a couple different inserts that I have too and they were still huge. These would be good boots for somebody in cold/wet weather or working in mud/dirt on a regular basis. Didn't fit my need exactly so I'm returning.

I wear a size 7 1/2 usually, but because I have a bunion on one foot, I bought the 8, even though many people suggested going down since the boots run big. The 8s were too big and I returned the 8s and bought the 7, which fits perfectly.

These Cush slippers are one of those clothing items you will either love or hate. When you first put them on you they feel strange as they need a 5-day break-in time to form to your foot but once they do they are the most comfortable slippers I have ever worn. And they do run small so I suggest you buy a size bigger. (I'm a man's size 11 and I bought both the 2XL and the 3XL and the 3XL fits better although it looks like I'm wearing clown shoes!) The style is pretty ridiculous and clownish but who cares because you can't wear them outside anyways. The bottom sole is made of fabric and adhesive sticky decals and will wear out quickly on rough surfaces. These are definitely "sleeping bags for your feet" so they are flat with no arch support but unlike other slippers my feet don't overheat and sweat in them. This must be due to the materials they are made of and how they are sewn. And when they do get dirty you can just throw them in the washing machine on the cold-delicate cycle. If Baffin could just redesign the soles so that they are more durable, fix their sizing problems (they seem to be using children's sizes) and bring the price down a little I would give these 5 stars.

I work in the water treatment industry and footwear is very important to me, I was grateful you carry Baffin;I have tried ordering directly from them and that did not work out at all for me... I love Zappos; unfortunately for most everyone else, their customer service and returns processing is sorely lacking the absolute wonderfulness that is Zappos! Thanks Again Y'all Kellie

I bought these for snowmobiling. My husband has a pair and loves them. I usually wear a 9. Based on other reviews I ordered a 10. I am returning as they are narrow and felt too tight even with thin socks. I'm sad - as they are very nice boots.

Didn't have a chance to test this boot in the snow, but seemed good and warm, well made, good quality. I would have had to add extra treatment to the leather I suspect, would not have tolerated any salt sand mix as is often tread upon during the winter snowy season. (I generally get a boot with a rubber base) However the main reason I had to return these was due to the heel lift while walking, just did not have a snug heel "cup". Also found the boot to be a bit narrow in width for my wide foot. Had thought it might work with a foot bed insert, but just didn't get a sense it was going to work out for me, so I returned them.

The toe area of these shoes up to where they slant upward for the ankle opening is very narrow -- not narrow across the sole, narrow from top to bottom. The effect is that your feet feel very confined. It almost feels like surfing booties. I did not like this super form-fitting fit and returned these.

I loved the look, feel and initial performance of the boot. I live and play in the Rockies and my foot has never been more warm or more comfortable than it has been in this boot. The problem is that one of the top eyelets broke away from the boot within the first two weeks of wearing it. I replaced them with another pair, thinking this was a one time issue. The exact same thing happened to the new boot within two months. I SO wished Baffin would fix this, I would buy another pair IMMEDIATELY.

I ordered this boot in the black and white color in size 11 which is my usual size for boots, while I wear 10 in most shoes. The length was fine but they seemed a little narrow and especially snug around the ball of the foot area. I'm not sure whether that may have improved with wear as the liner was broken in, but I returned them, because they also dug into the calf muscle on the back of one leg when I walked. Additionally, I wasn't thrilled with the color once I had them on with ski pants, as the black and white on the top of the boot gave me the impression that I was wearing spats when a pants leg covered the shaft of the boot. They did seem like they would be very warm.

These are clearly snow boots - definitely not that stylish. Love the brand though, I believe it's a brand that does "good" with the world. I got a half size up and they still felt a little too snug (with thicker socks). Since you'll probably wear these for cold weather purposes and have thicker socks, I'd recommend going a full size up.

I really like these boots, overall. They feel like the equivalent to flip flops for winter—easy on, easy off. They are incredibly light weight & packable & warm for midwest winter—albeit not as cold this year as it can sometimes get. They don't have as much support as I would like. I inserted arch supports & I haven't yet found the perfect fit for the boots so they still feel awkward for long walks. One of the buckles has broken off after just a few months of ownership. For now, four stars. In time, maybe I'll find it is really 5.

Not even sure why I'm submitting this review, Boots looked great, but did not fit, I'd suggest ordering a full size larger than you usually do. Don't know how Zappos could dial it in better per manufacturer, they {The Manufacturers} seem to be all over the map. And, I don't like having to return for this reason, it's got to be a large waist of money.

These don’t come in half sizes. Zappos recommended size was excellent. These don’t run big. The boot is made for rain and wet weather. There is no insulation. I have worn in cold weather below 30 degrees F. I don’t think it would be ok for long exposure to cold weather though. Boots grip!
