I love the cut outs on the sides but they are made for very narrow feet. I wouldn't consider myself to have fat feet but the cut outs sort of cut into my feet and it wasn't a good look. The top of the shoe around the ankle also cut into my skin the edge of the leather wasn't soft at all.

Loved the style and quality however the size 5 I ordered fit more like a 6 or 7. These definitely run big so back they go. Bummer because I really liked them.

I am a huge Freebird fan. They are handmade, so they come with issues, always. I'm an 8.5/9, usually on the 9 side. Like most Freebirds, I needed an 8 in these. A couple of the side crisscross straps were a tiny bit tight. I just played with them a bit, pulled on them a little, and they stretched out plenty, because they're leather. The buckle on one side hit my ankle in the wrong place. I loosened it, adding another hole in the buckle strap, now it's perfect. The tops of the boots, where the leather hits my ankle, were a little bit sharp. I softened them up with my hands, rubbed some shoe leather oil into them, and then filed them down a bit with my jewelry file. Now my ankles are happy. There was a sharp glob of glue on the footbed. I pried it off with my pliers. Now the bottom of my foot is happy. If I want arch support, I'll slip in a Pedag Viva Mini or something, but they're pretty comfortable for me without. I will also be taking them in to my cobbler to have a Vibram layer added to the front of the sole, which will make them last much longer. The thing is, even with all these mods I had to make, and I usually have to make several similar mods to any Freebird I buy, I still end up with a really great quality handmade leather shoe that will last a very long time. I bought a pair of Freebird boots one time on deep deep discount because the footbed was glued down in a bunch at the toe and was unwearable. I spent a good hour or two pulling it up and then gluing it back down again (shoo goo is awesome!), but I ended up with a $300.00 dollar pair of Grany boots that will last me for 10 years for $25.00 because I was willing to do the work. In these, I got the blue. They are gorgeous. I just got them, and I have worn them out once. I got stopped twice in Dick's Sporting Goods so that two people could look at them, gush over them, and ask where I got them. That's not an isolated incident with Freebirds. They look like quality, and are definitely conversation starters.

These shoes are awesome! Very stylish, comfortable and go with just about anything. I have to wear closed toe/closed heel shoes to work, so this is my way of 'rebelling', and I love them. Feels true to size and has that cool 'lived in' look that Freebird products are known for.

I LOVE Freebird shoes, so beautiful, just my style!! Unfortunately I wear a size 5 shoe and so rarely get a chance to even order a pair. I mostly admire sadly from a distance. I wanted the Freebird Stair so bad, but never could find a 5 so when I saw these in the brown in a 5 I was so excited! I ordered them as soon as I saw them and they are gorgeous boots!! Just perfect in every way except one...the size 5 is ENORMOUS! I can put these on without the use of the zipper, they fit me like at least a size 6W and are completely useless to me. They flop around like clown shoes. I am devastated. I even tried using a toe spacer to make them work, no luck. Back they go, and I will cry as usual. Please make Freebird in a true 5...please!!!!

I love these boots but the straps around the ankle are huge. I'm afraid that if I bought a size smaller it would be to short in the toe and I want comfy shoes

I had to send these back. I had high hopes, but they seemed narrow, and long. And frankly they just weren't as attractive as they seemed in the photo.
