It takes A LOT for me to call out a shoe for being too small. Especially Fryes- I find all my Frye boots to be tts and if they are the least bit snug they loosen up with a little bit of wear and fit/feel great. But these. These... My God. They are absolutely a 1/2 to a full size too small. I don't think just narrow, so says the woman who was forced to enlist another person to pry the things off her feet, but the whole foot bed was squeezing my pups far too much. They are well made (of course) and great looking (though I decided to go with a slightly shorter shaft)... But, size up in these boys, ladies!

I love Frye. BUT, sometimes Frye runs small, sometimes not. This one runs small. Also, the color is brown. I don't know what color charcoal is to other folks, but these boots are just a deep brown.

Love these boots! A little hard to pull on the first time, but now it's no problem. These boots are flattering and high quality, and I expect will last for years. The heel is leather and there's not a lot of traction, so they are not good boots for snow and ice, but they look great with skirts and dresses. I splurged and also bought the waterproof Natalie Mid Engineer with shearling lining and lug soles to get me through Maine winters. The second pair is a little bulkier and less dressy, but I love the edgy style of these boots and I expect the two pairs to last forever! This pair (without the lug sole) runs a little small. My usual shoe size is 8.5W. The 9 in this boot fit me. In the lug sole with shearling lining, the 8.5 fit perfectly. I have had two pairs of a similar Moto style boot from Gentle Souls. Even though the boots were expensive, the soles only lasted a year before the heel was worn down and the tread was gone. The soles were irreplaceable. I was about to buy a third pair because I loved the style so much before I found these. These look even better and have soles that are Goodyear welted that can be replaced if necessary, though I expect these soles will hold up for many years. Frye Boots are worth the extra money for the quality!

Very nice looking boots, although the toe is more narrow looking than I hoped they would be. They were a bit hard to get into at first. I ordered my normal shoe size and had to shove my foot down in (wearing a fairly thin sock), but after that, it was smooth sailing. I had unbuckled the boot at the foot and the top. There was plenty of room in the rest of the boot so that I could wiggle my toes and it didn't bother my bunion or squeeze my slightly wider foot. The shaft is a little more narrow than I had hoped as well, but I'm short and have wider calves. The leather is sturdy, yet soft enough that I think it would stretch with wear. Haven't had the chance to wear these as I don't know if I'm going to return these yet.because I will be also trying the Frye Veronica Short to compare the two. Overall, a very nice looking boot.
I'd also recommend:

The color of this "smoke" boot is absolutely gorgeous. If, like me, you are torn between whether to get black or brown boots, this color solves the problem! It is a rich, deep, muted gray brown (looks brown if you had to give it a name) boot that can serve both your brown or black needs where color scheme is concerned. Out of the box, the boot felt true to size and fit my 8.5 M foot perfectly. Of course, Frye tends to be a bit stiff out of the box but with time, molds to your foot and Im excited for that. But I have no complaints where comfort is concerned right now. I was leary about the asymmetrical and wider fit at the top of the boot but wound up impressed at how the boots fit my lower calf (which, I would say, is of average size). When I put them on, the boots did not look too wide, nor did they slouch. The adjustable buckle at the top was helpful with this. I have had Frye boots before and this one is my favorite! And of course, Zappos is the BEST! Their shipping and return policies, as well as their quality shoes, make me come back again and again!

These boots are great. I bought the black ones in a size 5 1/2. I typically wear a 5 to 51/2. They fit great. I put on a light nylon sock to help get them on. I'm wearing them a few hours at a time to break them in a bit. Love them!

This is a beautiful boot. It's high quality, like all Frye boots I've owned. Because many reviewers said this boot runs a little small, I ordered my true size thinking the leather will stretch a bit. They were actually just a little too big and my heal slipped in the back, even with thick socks. I ended up returning them. I was going to order a half size down, but I wish I would have ordered them while they were still on sale. I'll probably hold off for now, but I would definitely recommend this boot if you are looking for something that will last you years.

First let me say I have had about 35 pairs of Frye boots over the past two decades and they are by far the best quality boot I have ever purchased. I am not afraid to shell out the money for a quality product. Frye NEVER disappoints me! I purchased these beauties because I wanted a more polished biker boot to wear to work. They have a more slim silhouette and sleeker appeal than the other styles. They DO however run a half size small. I like to wear mine with a medium thick sock. All in all these boots are beautiful and super comfortable right out of the box. They are definitely worth every penny!!!!

I bought a pair of "charcoal" colored boots on line 1.5 months ago. Visually, they are a beautiful, well made dress boot and can give them a 5. I already had an older pair of unlined higher veronica slouch boots in nubuck that had fit immediately without any need to break in and are very comfortable! That said, these new natalie mid engineers are leather lined and much, much stiffer and styled a bit narrower. I happen to have been in Boston when I bought the veronicas and was luckily able to try them on first. For me this is always the best way to buy shoes as my feet are not perfectly shaped (rt larger than left) ! The fit for the Natalies are not as good for me as the veronicas but I am working on trying to break them in so they eventually soften up a bit. Yes I have gotten a blister on my R outer ankle. I usually take a narrow size 7.5 and I ordered an 8 . I live in Ventura County CA and nearest store is in SF!! and will definitely try to try them on first "in store" before I buy my next pair.

Worth every penny. Soft, fit perfectly. I've had both ankle and calf surgeries and these boots are comfy, no need to 'break in'. Love the color and mid-calf height. The adjustability at the ankle and calf are also excellent features.

I bought these boots two months ago and I love them! I bought a half size up based on other reviews and I'm glad I did. They fit perfectly and are so comfy to wear all day! They go with everything as well!

Very comfortable! I didn't get. Chance yet to treat these and got rained on and no spots. The height is that great in the middle between calf and to the knee.

It's not easy trying to be hip at age 62, but these boots sure do help. Great style and good detailed stitching for a more refined look than the Veronica Short. A bit difficult to get on at first but hoping this will get easier over time. They don't get any better than Frye!

I have a very high instep and could not get the boots on. The boots were beautiful though, great for the money.

I got these boots because I needed a casual black boot that didn't look too clunky. These are absolutely perfect. The leather is soft and pliable, yet not too delicate for some wear and tear. The fit is a bit tight across my foot, but I have a pretty wide foot, so this is to be expected. I've worn them twice and they are already feeling more comfortable. They are a little difficult to put on, but not that bad.

These are great boots. Very high quality leather and will take some time to break in. The only comment I would make is that the "Charcoal" color is truly a very dark brown.

Received them today. Love these boots! I wear wide-width shoes so purchased a full size up. Still had a tough time getting it on and off my bigger foot. I wore them around the house for just a couple hours hoping to break them in.

I love this boot, but they were really hard to get on. Once I did, the lower stiff part of the boot dug into my ankle on one foot. Bummer.

I bought these and loved them from the first minute I tried them on. I bought them a half size larger than I usually wear based on reviews, and that was spot on for size. Great quality and super soft leather. They are stylish too!
