I bought these along with the Ahnu Montara to compare, and it was a tough decision between the 2. Both boots have their pro's and cons. What I really like about the North Peak is how securely they can be snugged around the ankle due to a lower-placed grommet for the laces (it is cloth instead of the gold plastic(?) and in the product images above the laces are not laced through them). These boots have more room in the toe box than the Montara, which felt great in some respects but ultimately I liked the snug, almost slipper-like fit of the Montara better on my foot. The North Peak also has a more rigid, thicker sole which I can imagine is better for backpacking with a heavy pack. However for my purposes and preferences, I prefer the thinner more flexible sole of the Montara--I will be using them mostly for day hiking and my job as a farmer. Overall these boots are very comfortable and if I had a need and felt I could afford it, I'd be tempted to keep these along with the Montara.

I am very impressed with this boot! I own an older Ahnu Montara, have been using it for walking/commuting for at least the past two years. I loved the sneaker-like comfort, and the feminine touch it had over other options. After a short experiment on the Appalachian Trail, I knew I needed a boot with a thicker sole, and more toe room. I purchased this boot, hoping for the similar comfort, quality, and style, and that it would meet my new criteria. Boy! It has exceeded my expectations! The materials are excellent quality (metal buckles, quality nylon, supple nubuck, and smooth soft interior leather). The is collar comfortable with medium ankle support, and the sole is definitely thicker and more supportive than my previous shoe, but I'm not sure it would be enough for the really rocky trails, while carrying a medium-weight (25-30lbs) loaded backpack . Despite how much I liked this boot, I am actually returning it. Like my old boots, the top of this boots ends just above the ankle, and I am too afraid it may continue to bruise my bony left ankle, as its predecessor does. (I think I just have a strange ankle, because I have NO issue on the right side.) Also, I found the arch support was a little too much for my slightly flatter feet.
I'd also recommend:
Salomon, Lowa, Vasque

Finally! I have tried on many different hiking boots over the past week looking for a suitable replacement for my beloved but worn-out Ahnu Truckee hiking boots (discontinued and absolutely nowhere to be found!). I hike 2 - 3 times a week, 4 - 12 miles at a time, over a wide range of terrain. I need ankle support but I need that support to be soft because I can't stand the top of the boots "bumping" against my ankle and shins. Drives me nuts. I tried the Ahnu Sugarpine and the Montara, a couple of different Keens, two pair of Asolo and two pair of hunting-type boots. I was so frustrated! And then, finally, these little lovelies showed up. They are high to support my ankles but nice and soft and comfy around the top; not too much padding and they bend nicely. They are sturdy but don't feel hard. The waterproofing is also a nice touch although I don't really need it so I won't be able to comment on how effective it is. And to top it all off, they don't look big and clunky like the Keens. My sizing is generally between an 8 and 8.5 and I always go with 8.5 in hiking boots to allow that little bit extra. These boots are no exception. As with my defunct Ahnu Truckees, the 8.5 feels perfect. I think I'll buy all three colors so that I'll have back-up and won't have to go through this process again when these boots give out.

This is a follow-up to my previous review. I quickly received a replacement pair - thanks Zappos! They too are not keeping my feet dry - the mesh like triangles on either side of the ball of my feet are where moisture is getting in. I'm from walking my dogs in wet grass / fields - not walking through creeks. I contacted Teva (partnered with Ahnu) and the friendly customer support woman said they should be waterproof and likely had two defective pairs. She recommended I return them to Zappos for a replacement. If the 3rd pair leaks, I am to contact Ahnu. They guarantee this boot for 1 year. She did take my contact info and noted the challenges I'm having with the boots.

Trekked all over Bhutan in these hiking boots. No break in period, no blisters. Comfortable right out of the box. You will not regret your purchase!

My goal was to find a pair of comfortable, sturdy, waterproof boots that would mainly be worn when doing loads of yard work, but also utilized for ATV riding & the occasional hike in the woods. I had never heard of Ahnu & I am so glad I found these boots b/c they definitely fit the bill. They are the most comfortable boots I have ever owned & are worth every penny. I wear 8.5 & they fit true to size & have plenty of room in the toe box. I have joint issues & neuroma of my R foot & have no trouble with these boots after wearing them for hours at a time. They didn't need to be broken in. The laces stay tied. The list of positives goes on & on. Overall, Teva did a great job with the design of this boot.

Love Love Love these boots. I shoveled snow for 4 hours in these boots and they were dry and warm the entire time. Truly waterproof, lightweight, and truly warm but not too warm. And they were not expensive.

These boots are great for me. I like the styling and the fit. I wear an 11 and don't have a very wide foot although not truly a narrow. These boots have plenty of room in the toe box without being too wide like some. The length is true to size with a nice fit in the ankle - no shifting or slipping. I like the way they hug my foot and are very comfortable while wearing for long periods of time.

They were just what I was looking for to hike 95 miles in Portugal. Waterproof, comfortable, arch support, ankle support, cushioned heel with a vibram sole, and easy to lace.

I bought these boots after deciding, (at the last minute) that I needed new (larger) hiking boots for a vacation out west. I received these the day before my trip and was hoping I would like them...well, I LOVE them! I chose these based on reviews, my history with Ahnu shoes and the product description and could not be more pleased. No break in period at all--- comfortable right out of the box; no blisters, hot spots or rubbing. I thoroughly tested out the claim they are waterproof and never had wet socks/feet. They have a roomy toe box and great arch and ankle support. Light weight and very comfortable on long days. Longest hike for me was 4.5 miles over muddy, somewhat rocky terrain--only had the boots for 2 days when I hit the trail. These were the perfect choice for me!

I absolutely love these boots - I'd ordered several pair from different brands and found these to be the best fit for my feet; and they felt good right out of the box! I wanted a waterproof boot to provide enough wiggle room for my toes (slightly wider toe box) with a snugger fit for my narrow heels. The laces stay tied, they are light to wear. I've worn them for a few short hikes in the six months I've had them - nice support - and my feet didn't get wet when crossing a creek. Typical use includes 5 days a week for 30 - 40 minutes to walk my dogs in the fields. Sadly, this past week my feet have been getting wet while walking through wet grass in the fields. Zappos is great and is sending me a replacement pair. I hope my first pair just had a defect as these are great boots aside from this recent problem. If I could make a recommendation to Ahnu it would be to change the color of brown on the soles - on quick glance it looks like I've stepped in dog waste!

Very comfortable right out of the box. My foot is on the narrow side of medium width. These boots feel roomy but not sloppy. They are light, too!

These boots were very comfortable from the start--no beak-in period necessary! However, they are NOT waterproof! I'm a ups driver and purchased these to keep my feet warm and dry. My feet were always cold and in snow and rain, my feet were wet by the end of day. So disappointed!
