If you are going to use this shoe on flat pedals, do not buy it. They are extremely heavy, the rubber is really hard and they are not grippy at all.

These shoes run almost an entire size larger. I own multiple Five Ten shoes and had to order these several times to get the right fit.

I consider myself a novice MTB'er and bought these shoes because my vans just werent giving me enough protection. I read other reviews that were very positive on the grip these shoes provide and I agree 100%. Super grip to my platform pedals. I must admit I was a little leary of the shoes when I first put them on as they felt very bulky and heavy and the sole has a bit of a fulcrum that teeters when youre walking in them. As much as I dont like these shoes for just walking around, once I wore them on a ride, I will be hard pressed to use anything other than these shoes for riding. Everything that I felt negative towards these shoes all changed when I used them for what they are designed for, riding! Super grip, excellent thoroughness throughout and an overall perfect MTB shoe if you use platform pedals. Run slightly large but for me the extra room is welcomed when Mtn biking.

For downhill mtn biking/racing. These shoes are very heavy and heavy duty. If you want a light spd shoe for X-Country these aren't it. These are for aggressive downhill riding/racing with spd's. If you want to use these as flats the Sam Hill-type models are better. With that said I own multiple pairs of Five Tens and they're great! Also, I read a review where someone said they run small. No, they run big -- especially wide. I normally wear 11 to 11 1/2 in bike shoes and I had to drop a half size and almost wish I had dropped a full size. You don't want spd shoes to be loose or you're going to be slipping when you pedal and getting blisters.

These shoes are really comfy. They are big and I notice that they hit the ground when I corner hard (I've got big feet - size 14). Walking around in the shoe is a pleasure and it's easy to forget that they cycling shoes. You will need to grease your cleat for the first ride or else you will have a problem releasing. This problem will stop once the shoe gets worn down on the SPD cutouts.

Pros- Grippy sole with a wide platform; great for when you have to dab in a rock garden and don't want to roll your ankle. My other shoes are SIDI Drakos and those things are like stilettos by comparison. SPD clip hooks up easily with pedal, yet, for the most part, does NOT bottom out on smooth surfaces (like a concrete driveway or kitchen floor). Sole is a terrific pedaling platform, stiff, but just flexible enough to walk in (after said dab in rock garden). Upper is thick and protective for the odd whack against a rock or tree; your feet are entombed in bank vault protection. I pulled the laces and threaded in Yankz elastic laces; skipped the top two holes and it makes getting in and out a breeze. The large velcro strap keeps the foot locked in with plenty of security. Cons - While all black is nice and unobtrusive, one of my riding buddies says "they look like orthopedic shoes to remedy a leg length discrepancy...” That has since morphed into me having club feet. There’s a Herman Munster vibe to them, but a lot of downhill shoes suffer the same; huge and skatey. Also, the shoe is a little heavy, but if I'm in gram-shaving-XC mode, I wear the SIDIs which are seriously light by comparison. Overall, if you're looking for an All Mountain shoe that's comfy, walkable, grippy and has clip compatibility, this is a great pick; just don't expect to win any fashion awards at the espresso bar or watering hole post ride!

Good solid shoe, does it's job well. Stiffness means it is tougher for walking, but better for biking. Looks well enough to wear all day at work if business casual is allowed. One issue, cleats need to be tightened very tight in order to stop them from moving around when you ride - something I have not experienced with 2 previous pairs of street/bike shoes. Also, cleats are barely recessed - your hear metal quite often when you're walking outside. Good shoe though. Would recommend it.

These shoes are great for trail, cx or DH riding. These shoes fit me perfect and were true to size compared to my Globe skate shoes. Would definitely recommend.

Awesome mtb shoe, heavy as crap but they can take anything you can throw at them. Crossing creeks carrying a 40lb mtn bike is not easy, but the S1 rubber on these shoes give you solid footing that won't let you down when you gotta rock hop to the other side.

These are the best shoes that I have ever purchased. Amazing construction, very durable, and very walkable. I use these with spd cleats. The recessed cleat barely makes contact with the ground so there has been virtually no wear to the cleat. My only complaint is that these shoes do not breath very well. They are hot shoes in the summer time.

These shoes are heavy duty. They should last me at least 10 years if strictly for mountain biking. They feel heavy compared to other biking or walking shoes. I wanted these for the cool style, for SPD uses, and mostly for the slightly wider width. It is impossible to find wide biking shoes since most brands are made for girly-man feet. I am 185 pounds with an athletic build. My feet are not skinny, nor are they fat. These shoes barely give me that extra space I need without being too wide. Similar to wearing skate shoes. (I wear DCs and wide size New Balance. Screw Nike, Specialized, Shimano, & Pearl Izumi.) The length size is exact while wearing biking socks (not tube socks). Like many have said, these shoes are stiff out of the box but will loosen up with time.
I'd also recommend:
Screw Specialized, Shimano, & Pearl Izumi. They think eveyone has skinny feet.

Disappointed. After waiting for a week+ for these to arrive, they are uncomfortable. Unless they are supposed to be so tight that they cut off circulation, they are WAY too tight! I’ve had them on for 30 minutes and can’t feel my toes. The left foot feels shorter than the right (I’ve never had that happen before). These feel like a tight pair of Frankenstein shoes. They are very heavy; my work boots feel lighter. I have a pair of Feeriders and love them, but I’m hating these Hellcats so far. Probably going to REI and finding a different pair of shoes (not Five Ten). :-(
