It took me three attempts before finding Birks that fit just right. I bought a pair of Tatami Birkenstocks over 15 years ago in size 225 (35) that fit perfectly, so I initially ordered a size 35 N. They felt a tad short and too narrow. I don't have wide feet at all, so I assumed the narrow was appropriate, but I have since learned that the smaller sizes run more narrow. My next attempt was a 36 regular, but they were way too big. I started thinking that maybe I was between sizes and wouldn't find a good fit. But then I tried a 35 regular, and they fit perfectly. My only disappointment is that I could use more holes in the straps to make them a little more snug, but I can probably fix that with a leather hole puncher. Sizing Birkenstocks is tricky. I wear a 6.5-7 in most running shoes, and I typically wear a 6 in dress shoes and sandals, but I needed the Birkenstock size of 4-4.5 (35).

Purchased the 39 based on the size recommendations. I usually take an 8-8.5 in fashion related shoes and 8.5-9 in running shoes and 39 in Euro hiking boots. I was swimming in the 39. I kept the 39 until the 38 Euro arrived. The 38 fit was nearly perfect. I felt my narrowish foot was slipping forward - went down to our studio and found a leather punch. Measured to mimic size and spacing to add another hole for each shoe on back (leg side) strap - perfect! Or, visit your local cobbler - an easy fix! While I might have been able to choose the narrow rather than the regular, I prefer the regular footbed. And, Zappos customer service and shipping were extremely helpful and understanding - kudos to them!

The narrow is still very wide!! So wide I initially thought I was sent the wrong pair! But I checked the icon on the footbed and it does indeed mean narrow. I could fit my whole hand under the strap on the tightest notch! The only reason I kept them is because they feel so darn good on my feet :) I have cartilage issues on the ball of my foot and normally need padding/orthotics but I don't need them with these. So I made new notches (actually twice) and they seem to be working out. The suede stretches so I wouldn't be surprised if I have to make another one. Its just wild I had to go over 1/2 inch in from the tightest notch. My feet are not that narrow! I took off a point for style as well because the wide footbed makes it look like I have hobbit feet. For the length, I'm normally an 8.5-9, I followed advice and got a 39 and it fits perfectly.

These feel amazing on my feet!! The suede is super soft and feels great across the tops of my feet. The footbed fits perfectly to the shape of my foot. I have generally wide feet across my toes, so they are often squeezed across the toes in traditional women's shoes and sandals. I think because these are unisex, they are perfect width for my "duck feet" (thanks to years of dancing growing up). That said, the straps are on the tightest (across toes) and second tightest (across arch) holes, so I'd imagine as they stretch I'll need to punch new holes, but I'm fine with that. Definitely go with the guideline of heel all the way at the back and there should then just be a little room for your toes at the end (see photo). I always wear an 8 - 8.5 ladies shoe, have never worn smaller sizes as an adult, however I went with the size 38, which is recommended for 7 - 7.5. (Long story below on why that's so important!) The taupe color is just what I expected, maybe appears a little lighter than online photos, but within the right color range for a natural material. The bronze buckles are a nice touch. These seriously feel like they are hugging my feet! Getting the right size story: I ordered a pair of Mayaris last year from another site and just went with the sizing chart that is available and ended up with size 39 for my usually 8 - 8.5 size feet. BOY did they HURT. I thought they would break-in eventually as mentioned in the description, but because (as I now know) they were too big, no amount of break-in was going to fix the fact that the arch support came too far forward on my feet, causing blisters to form right where my arch meets the middle of the ball of my foot (more than once, after breaking in for a while). Now that I've read more, I know that a perfect fit for these shoes is what would almost be considered too little toe room in a sneaker or in other sandals that don't have raised edges. When in doubt, size down!!

I have very sensitive feet and I needed a shoe with more support than a flip flop but for the summer. Great shoe!

I have wide feet and was looking for a good shoe for the summer. Something dressier than flip-flops but more casual than heeled sandals or something. These are great shoes! They are super supportive and comfortable (they do have that brand new shoe stiffness, and need a little bit of breaking in). They are definitely for wide feet. I sometimes feel my foot slipping around, but that's nothing tightening the buckles can't fix. They go with virtually anything (the Arizona suede color that I purchased does, at least) and could be worn, I think, well into the fall. Overall, I am super happy I got these shoes. They are a welcome addition to my closet!

Bought these as gift for my sister and they look fine however did not come in the original Birkenstock’s box. It came with no packing material or invoice - just the shoes. Horrible shipping issue and wished i went directly thru Birkenstock’s website, would of been the same price. Zappos lost a customer.

I just purchased my first pair or Arizona Birkenstock and I am blown away! The comfort and arch support is amazing. It is also an extremely light sandal making it exceedingly easy to walk in. It has the feeling of quality, and the suede is heavenly soft! I have been waiting for years to get my first pair and I am extremely happy I made the investment.

Are these the legend? I ordered these after my J Crew sandals of the same design were eaten by my dog after 9 years of lovely service, and I find myself rather disappointed with them. They are HUGE! I am a 7.5-8 and ordered them in a 38 (according to Zappos, a 7-7.5), only to find that I feel as if I have slipped my feet accidentally into my husband's shoes. I ordered them in the regular width since my feet are normal to wide width and they are WAY too wide. I find it hard to believe that the smaller, narrower size would not be too small (as I would have to go to a 6-6.5), but I may still try it in my desperation for a comfortable sandal. In this fit, these hurt my feet more than they comfort. Beware the sizing! Thank you to Zappos for happily honoring their price protection policy!

I was worried about ordering the regular size after everyone said they’re huge. However, if you wore Birkenstocks in the 90s, like me, then regular width is the style you’ve already worn. I have a narrow foot and felt like narrow was too tight. As far as size, I wear a 40 in Dansko, but I’m a 39 in Birkenstock because the fit is more exact for Birkenstock.

I think because these sandals are unisex they tend to run very wide for women. I normally wear a 9M but the Birkenstock 40 Medium is way too wide. I would have had to wear the straps on the tightest holes, and still they were too loose. I re-ordered these in a 40 Narrow and they were much better. I can wear them with the straps on a middle hole. I tried one size smaller - a 39 Medium, as well, but the straps were still too wide and the sole was too small. I suggest if you are a woman with a normal width foot that you order the narrow size.

What an excellent customer service department the best online. They fixed my mistake in ordering the wrong size and I still received the shoes in time for the birthday. It doesn't get any better than this. The reps are so darn nice and the merchandise and prices make it excellent shopping.

Amazing shoes! Great arch support, wide enough, the only thing I would recommend is buying them a size (or half smaller). I’m a 6.5 normally and the 5-5.5 still is roomy.

I’m back to update my review. Zappos is replacing the used shoes delivered and was so easy to deal with. They provided an extra perk too which I appreciate. Glad to see good customer service still exists. Way to go Aura!!

I didn't believe the shoe could be cut so much larger even after reading the other reviews. I got a size 13 which is my normal size and had to exchange it for a 12-12.5, beware these shoes are really cut a size larger then the chart states!

I love Birkenstock, but the Taupe Suede is much darker then it appears in the photograph which I am very disappointed about.

The shoes I received have a fluffy towel texture instead of a smooth suede finish. These are not the high-quality I was expecting from Birkenstocks.

This is the third or fourth time I have ordered from Zappo’s,We have worn Arizona Birks. For years so these are just as before,It takes a couple of week’s or so for your foot to settle in to the footbed so don’t expect perfect comfort on day one but since We are use to them it is easyier. This company is fantastic, shipping is quick,We recieved these in less than a week.

I have super-wide feet, like 11-6E. I normally wear a 13-4E (too long, but wide in the right places). These were just a little too long (as expected) and JUST wide enough. I think once again break them in they'll be perfect, and I don't think I could have gone with an 11.

I got my feet sized at a store before I bought these. Normally I'm a size 7, but for these I got the size 37 (or 6-6.5). It was also recommend that I get the narrow (like it is recommend to do in the text). It only took about a week to break them in and now they are super comfy! I like that they have a nice tread, so I don't ever feel like I'm going to slip, I'm even thinking about biking with them, a little hesitant since I didn't get the back strap version. Overall recommend jumping in on this trend!

I had to order down one size and a narrow width to get the correct fit in these shoes. Normally I wear a 6 medium, but in these I fit in the 36 narrow. They were comfortable after the first day of wearing them.

I got these for my husband, his second pair from Zappos. He absolutely loves them and wears them everywhere (even in the rain on city streets), as he finds them extremely comfortable. They also wear very well. Zappos carries a wide selection of the different colors and materials of these classic sandals.
